Playing it now on my Vita, physical release. One of the pros of being able to read Japanese.
So far the game is great. Make no mistake it's a really back to basic, minimalistic game, so you're not going to get anything "special" from it, but what it does, it does really well.
It's a completely straight forward JRPG that tells a story in a way that will resonate with fans of games like FF3, 4 and 5, with the basic gameplay of Chrono Trigger.
The soundtrack is completely piano driven, and the entire game is set in a world of snow, which might seem underwhelming to some but works really well for this game in the sense that it's relatively short and compact in everyhing it does, which to me, is a positive because it never overstays its welcome.
It's got a lot of quaint little details that really flesh out the game though - like how trails are left in the snow as your characters move, how weapons change appearance, a giant log-book that stores all info on characters, items, equipment etc, where you can read lore and watch 3D models up close, and many other things.
It's certainly not a game for everyone, but if you grew up playing SNES and PS1 JRPGs you'll probably feel right at home with this one for the 20-30 hours it will take you to beat it.
