So's staring at your face for prolonged periods.

I don't think DOC would have been any better had it spent more time in the oven. Plenty of games have spent year upon year in development, and some of them turn out worse than when they were first debuted to the public.

That's just the way I feel. I'm not going around yelling from the mountaintops that the game is horrible or that anyone who likes it is retarded or something. I don't make it my personal mission to make everyone aware of how utterly shit the game is or whatever. I think SE are great game developers with plenty of talent, but I don't think they could have pulled this one out of the ballpark.

THAT IS ALL IT IS.

And some of them got better too.

Basically I think what Dacon is trying to say that the game was an entirely unfixable concept to begin with. Dressed up shit is still shit.

It's not that DC wasn't that good because they didn't have enough time. They just had no fucking clue how to make a decent shooter. I don't think they ever intensively researched what makes Western shooter games so good either.
Also, the whole invisible barrier thing that's everywhere in DC. There was no need to put them everywhere in the first place.

The invisible barrier thing was relevant. Its called limitation of the system. The ps2 was the weakest of the three consoles last generation.

Please, I dont care if its one week to one year, no matter what, the more time you spend working on a game, even if it just a little bit, it will be better. With extra time, they could have made the materia system better, tightened the controls up, made melee combat deeper, ect ect. I think you forget that in the time it was released in the US from the Japanese release, DoC saw significant improvements to the Japanese counterpart.

What was that thing that made it possible for them to implement those fixes? Could it in fact be a little known concept such as time? Im going to say yes.

No it wasn't, plenty of games managed to have wide open environments with many actors in play on the console.

Yet actual events have proven this is not always the case.

DoC saw significant improvements to the Japanese counterpart.

Improvements that didn't stop it from being an average/below average game.

Those "improvements" did not change the core system of the game which is what made it suck so much to many people.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Very bad example. GTA:SA wasnt built from the ground up, but was a modification of an engine that was already modified once before with Vice City. Taking into account how long it took to make the GTA3 engine, the upgrade for Vice City, and the upgrade for SA, we're talking at least 4 years of development time. Dirge had no where near that amount of time. If it did, it would be a completely different game.

The invisible barriers had nothing to do with technical limitations, that's bullshit. >.O

Which is an assumption I can't buy into.

I'm referring to the first release. The Japanese one. That was the first and the one they fucked up on most. Because they rushed.[/quote]

There's two versions of the Japanese game(not including the international version(greatest hits)) The beta was nearly imposisible to beat compared to the normnal JP version. imho.
