I'm getting a 3DS... which one should I get?

I listed my favourite DS games in that thread Octo made a while ago, and they're all playable on the 3DS, so those are my recommendations.
  • Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Final Fantasy IV
  • Final Fantasy Tactics A2
  • Mario Kart DS
  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
  • Pokémon SoulSilver/HeartGold
  • Rhythm Heaven
  • WarioWare: Touched!

If I had to pick a couple out, I'd say Broken Sword and FFTA2. Obviously Chrono Trigger is amazing as well, but you can get basically the same experience by playing it on a SNES emulator, while those two games are really at their best (or exclusive, in the case of FFTA2) on the DS. I dunno if you're interested in point-and-click games though.

I almost had buyers regret the other day but now I'm neck deep in a few of the games and loving it. This is an incredibly fun little gaming device. I even went and paid silly money for HeartGold because gold is my favourite Pokémon game (I used to have it on the GBC) but I'm going to have to test it extensively (i.e. play to like the 5th gym) almost right away to make sure I wasn't sent a bootleg. I got it from a reputable seller on Amazon so I'm hoping it's legit. I am amazed at how difficult that game is to get.

Progress so far:

Fire Emblem: Played the first few battles. Interesting game, I'm going to have to spend some time getting used to how the battles work. I need actual time to invest in it, so I won't be able to dive in properly any time soon.

Super Mario 3D Land: Holy shit this game is satisfying to play.

New Super Mario Bros 2: See above. Logged quite a few hours in both now.

OoT 3D: I mean what can you say, it's OoT. This is one I'll pick up from time to time, played til Hyrule field so far. I'm used to the original so this will probably be one I play for half an hour bouts at bedtime.

Sonic Generations: Kind of meh. I'm a sonic fan and it's not bad, but it's my least favourite of all the games I bought. The console equivalent is pretty phenomenal, I just don't have the motivation for this one right now.

FF Theatrhythm Curtain Call: Addicted. Completely addicted. Anyone with a 3DS needs to get this game, it's excellent.

Oh I also snagged the DS version of Super Mario 64 for £5, should be arriving later this week. Roll on moar gaemz 0_0

So I enjoy a lot of Nintendo games, but only have like 4 for my 3DS right now, which is shameful. O.O I need to pick up some of the recommendations here!
Anyhoo, here's a few games I like for it so far:

Kid Icarus Uprising. I was actually totally hooked, never thought it'd be fun but someone got it for me as a gift, so I played it. It was quite entertaining.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: As Kingdom Hearts 530 suggested, this is a great game if you like the KH series. One of the better 'filler' stories, loved it from start to finish. Had some epic shit going down in it. :monster:
Tales of the Abyss: Someone else suggested this above I think; (Edit: Drax!), I haven't actually finished it yet, but it's pretty good too, nice long and engaging story.

And that's all I can suggest right now. I need to buy some more games, but now I'm saving up for a PS4 so I can play the FFVII remake when it comes out. :awesome:

I was thinking of getting KH3D now that I have a 3DS...but an HD port is a very real possibility so I'll just wait for that. :monster:

But then it won't be in 3D! :monster:

Serious though, that's a good idea. HD ports seem to be uber popular right now. :wacky:

I've never got the appeal of 3D. In fact, I'd probably have a 2DS by now if there was a folding version that didn't look like a Fisher Price toy.

I've got to say, I enjoy the 3D feature on this. It looks especially good in super mario 3d land and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Every time I've obtained a spiritual stone so far I've tried to touch it, because it's done so well XD.

I really liked the 3D in A Link Between Worlds, it's the only game I played pretty much entirely in 3D though.

I have KH3D, but...I actually think it's really hard. I haven't gotten too far in it. Right now I'm playing through the first Phoenix Wright game, actually.

I'd like to play Fire Emblem, since everyone freaks out about it so much, but why is it still $40? It came out awhile ago...

I'm actually shocked with how expensive 3DS games are. Even used games are going for £30 here.

^Same. Fuck, even some DS games still seem to be fairly expensive. Thought I could get a bunch of Zelda games for 15€ or less by now. :wacky:

My copy of HeartGold (DS game) was £30 (just the game, not boxed, no manual, no pokewalker - that was the best deal I could get online and I'm a thrifty fucker). Pokémon White I saw in a shop today for £15 which isn't so bad, but I found myself irritated by the lack of bargains anywhere.

Even the unlisted shops that only take cash and might aswell dump their wares in a bucket for people to sort through were expensive. These people have the internet now and they know how much to sell stuff for. It's upsetting ;-;
