SPOILERS Influences on Remake?

Obviously this is all based on the original FFVII, but are there any influences that you think the remake picked up in the years between the original release and this one?

The biggest comparison I see is people bringing up the whole Evangelion Rebuild project, and I do see the simillarities there. I also keep seeing echoes of Naruto's Itachi in RemakeRoth: 'Hold on to that hatred', 'run away, you have to live' etc compared to 'run and run, cling to your life, and hate me' along with 'why are you weak? not enough...hate'.

In terms of games, I'm not sure what influenced it...maybe FFXV? We know that Horizon Zero Dawn may influence P2 due to dev comments. I think Obsidian has also noticed possible simillarities to FFVIII in P1.

I think it used a few animations from FFXV like when Cloud passes through a crack in a wall (which was the same as Noctis'). I was getting strong Uncharted/GOW 2018/RDR2 vibes from the presentation, especially with all the alternate dialogue/events that could occur. The focus on everyone, even NPCs, getting voiced dialogue is something I haven't seen since Shenmue 1 and 2. And Tactical Mode reminded me a lot of The Matrix/Bullet Time, which makes sense given that in particular, OG FFVII, and AC all came out in the same era. Especially with AC in development during the Matrix's prime in popularity.

I imagine they looked long and hard at an original copy of ffvii, took it out for walks, serenaded it when they felt it was feeling down, encouraged it when it was feeling brave. Tucked it into bed at night whispering "everything is gonna be ok" then as it closed it eyes and truly believed a remake was a good thing.....

They watched Ghostbusters and decided to shit on the entire franchise by implementing fate ghosts just to fuck everything up.

Is it fair to say that the most Kingdom Hearts-like elements of Remake are things that Final Fantasy did first anyways? I mean, I know some of you are still salty about the Whispers but let’s not act like the OG itself didn’t help set a precedent for these kinds of devices lol.

In any case, I wonder if feeling the franchise was “shitted on” is a common complaint among Japanese audiences. The overall reception seems largely positive so I imagine the devs aren’t going to change course now, nor would I want them to.

As far as influences go, assuming we really are dealing with time travel, I could see elements of Avengers: Endgame and/or Steins;Gate popping up in the future.

Oh, you finally brought that up here Round...

And I'm now kicking myself because I can't figure out if those are the actual FFVII lines in that scene or if someone copy/pasted the lines in from Naruto as a meme...

*braces for the inevitable "What Naruto Characters are FFVII Characters" discussion that always ensues afterwards on Discord*

And yet I'm still more terrified of Itachi than Sephrioth as Itachi managed to successfully manipulate the people he wanted to manipulate. Sephrioth... doesn't really. And that's with Sephiroth having a literal mental link to the minds of some of the people he's trying to manipulate and actual bodily control of them. Itachi is more on the level of "I can make people see what I want them to and can use that to break people mentally because I know psychology".

It's a *really* good thing Itachi never wanted to *actually* destory the world...
