We don't have those people on this forum, we have more competent RPers, yourself for instance [asspat], that can guide people if they're new to RP.
Come on guys, vote and give it a chance at least.
I gave up on rping about the time i got booted from being the rp mod :joy:

I don't recall RP generating any real drama unlike spam.

Yes plz :wacky:

But in all seriousness I think that it could be beneficial and if we have the right people to introduce the intricacies of proper RPing then it could draw the attention of a lot of new members.

There wasn't any direct drama involved with RPing (other when L was calling Dalik out on stolen ACF ideas an shit) but mostly drama on spam that affected certain members also put them out of the mood for RPing.

But since then, half of those members aren't here.

No not rly. :monster: I've seen an FFVII RP work once with competent RPers and it was actually really well done. If you do it in the way of reinacting the story line (wait for self insertion) and each person taking a character role from the game, it can be a whole lot more interactive. Rather than going off on wild ideas like alchemists an shit, you have a script to follow that's open to creative interpretation.

Technically he got banned because of dupe accounts and threatening Nikki, i should know. I banned em.

The shinRa alchemists also was more talking that rp.
People assumed that pages of OOC: was justification enough to talk about their dogs while providing two lines of actual rping.
Even then it was all hideously written and switched between 1st and 3rd narrative mid post.

Wasn't he the one that kicked up all that shit about his RP remaining open after he was permabanned because it breached copyright or something?

Yeah, that fucker did that but there was a big stink of how his rp was going, how it wasn't within the terms of the site, him bitching about it, him then going off the handle, stealing the rp rules and just a bunch of other shit that just was retarded.

@Ashes

Yeah, he did that too :monster:

Well lets be absolutely fair here, I don't think his enormous pine forest of faggot trees is reason enough to prevent a trail run of an RP section here :P Provided that theres sufficient demand for it.

He claimed his rp ideas were copyright and he was suing SY because he had it on another forum. Despite the fact he merely merged two fictional storylines together and tried to rp with the central plot of both.

All in all it's classic signs of shitty rping that will most likely re-occur.
Acf had alot of rules for rping mainly due to the fact we wanted it done properly, otherwise you have alot of noobs asking out of context questions and generally fucking up the flow for everyone else.

just my 2cents but its just not worth it anymore.

Yeah but we'll write up RP laws and tutorials for noobs who don't know shit, to learn shit and therefor RP some good shit. Plus different levels of RPs can be formed, such as Beginners, Advanced, etc.

Been there done that.
Yoi fall into the trap of "Who the fuck do you think you are" Some people think they are 1337 with rping when really they are shit.
A mod telling them so only antagonises them and causes more shit (tried tested failed)
The concept of tutoring was also tried, unless your going to sit down with every single member and make sure they are doing it the way its supposed to be done then you always end up with problems.

Even when acf's rp domain was split into two it didn't help anything, you had URPG's ORPG's, GAIA and eventually the WORPG. All great idea with a shit load of planning and rule making and all died within the space of month.
All you need is 3 active members to have a good basis for an rpg, then again if those 3 are all communicating with one another to a common plot the others are fucked if one dissapears, gets bored or just cba anymore whih then leads to the rpg failing.

I see your point. I wasn't around at ACF to really see its RP section thoroughly, so I'm just running sailing this ship with hope in my arms that people will give it a shot, regardless of what happened in the past.

I do agree with that last statement though. Most RPs are fucked if some people leave, but a good, a really good RP usually has around 7/8 players and if someone leaves for a time (granted that it's not the leader) then someone else can cover for them.

You can make RPs accessible to all in my opinion.

TBH, it really depends on how you write a tutorial. If you write it in a patroniing manner, then you're going to get ignored obviously. However, if it's written in the way that is easy to understand, informal and friendly to the reader, it not only gives off the sense of a good RP section, but people can actually learn from it.

There are only a few rules when it comes to RPing, and I've learnt from experience that WORPGs don't work.
What you need is maybe a couple of really decent stories that can lure people in. Sure they take time and effort to create, but they usually gain alot of support than a tried and tested fan RPG.

Actually the WORPG on acf was one of the few things that did start to take off pre-closure.
That said it was that unbelievably massive the players had hardly any interaction toward one another which was a double edged blade in the long run.

the most common flaws are:

No OOC:
No godmodding
No changing bio's mid battle

Oh fuck you Celes, I'm spearheading the RP idea. I should get first dibs. D=<

Anyway, yeah there are a lot of flaws definitely. None that can't be hammered out though through some peer to peer discussions and opinions on the way things can be done. I think if one person is going to be writing up tutorials and segregating the RPers due to skill or lack of, then it'll fail. But if people put in their opinions about rules from the get go, we could get a happy sunshine kind of RP sub forum.

Discussions about rules and having a consensus on certain rules that would be necessary for the maintenance of such a forum is obviously necessary. I think that having guidelines for new members to follow would be somewhat helpful and beneficial in reminding them to follow certain structures. What I mean to say is having an extensive write-up on what to do and what not to do would really help--sort of like an FAQ but much longer. Think of it as a manual, ah that works.

I think that just reminding them to not use "OOC" would not work. Enforcing it and giving them examples would really suffice. Giving them references for character descriptions, backgrounds, profiles, etc. or world-building if they were to create their own RP could also be mandatory. Besides you can't just tell someone NOT to do a specific thing or NOT to do something because it doesn't follow a structure or format without backing it up with credible evidence and examples.

That's just my opinion.

Just wondering if a mod can change the title of this thread to more accurately reflect whats actually being proposed here so that more people might take an interest, casting some votes, etc :3
