Japanese Anime Movies

Well, let's talk about them here!:monster:

Hmm. First off, my recommendations are:

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
5 Centimeters per Second
Spirited Away
Gedo no Senki
Tonari no Totoro
Grave of the Fireflies

...I actually like most Ghibli stuff. XD

Do guys have any other good movies?

My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away are two of my favourite movies ever. I really like Studio Ghibli stuff too. <3

What, no Whisper of the Heart? I adored that movie. Tekkonkinkreet is a pretty good movie as well, and I adored the art style.

Yea! I couldn't believe how hooked I was. I cried and laughed in both! <3. The atmosphere of the movies are just perfect. <3

More Ghibli stuff:Howl's Moving castle is also nice. :monster:

Yeah, gotta love Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke was the first Miyazaki film I saw and it left a huge impression on me. I've heard there is a museum where exclusive short films are shown, and if that's true then I would love to go someday. I'd probably sneak in and live there. :monster:

However, during my more formative years, I remember stuff like Windaria, Wings of Honneamise, Robot Carnival and Project A-ko really expanding my mind (especially the very latter, lawl). I think Windaria is my favorite anime movie now that I think about it. Just a beautiful film.

Honorable mentions go to Toward the Terra (the old one) and Ghost in the Shell (always a classic) and Record of Lodoss War (though more of a series). Venus Wars, too.

Fire Tripper is also a neat one. It's a lesser-known Takahashi film, and I'd love to get my hands on the manga.

Oh yeah, and the short films in Neo-Tokyo and Memories. Great stuff.

Alright, one more mention and I'm done: Dragon Half. Was supposed to be a full-blown series yet was tragically cut short. I guess it's not technically a movie but both episodes could fit on one VHS. :awesome:

I would have recommended you The Girl Who Leapt Through Time as well. You have great taste :) As for other anime films, Tokyo Godfathers was pretty cool.

The director of the Girl Who Leapt Through Time directed the second Digimon movie as well. You could see the style is similar :p

I second Tekkonkinkreet and Ghost in the Shell! And all the Ghibli's of course. But Grave of the Fireflies made me cry myself to sleep for 2 nights, and it had me feeling really sad for the rest of the week! Watch at your own risk of dehydration.

Others:

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
Perfect Blue (bit of horror haha)
Paprika
Blood: The Last Vampire (there's also a live-action version coming out in June/July)
Karas

I saw this movie yesterday and it was very touching and very good. The Place Promised in Our Early Days. If you ever get the chance to see this movie, watch it, you'll never regret it (or that's just me).

Oooo, thanks for the reminder. I read an article recommending this, but I forgot to rent it.

Um, how about Ninja Scroll? That's the only sensible answer, ISN'T IT?

And Wrath of The Ninja: The Yotoden Movie holds many awesome and lulzy memories for me. One of the first anime movies I ever saw when I was a like ten or something(though it's not exactly intended for keeds).

Heard it was originally a three-volume series. I've only seen the re-edited feature film done by MTV Japan, but I loved it.

Princess Mononoke was the first Miyazaki film I saw and it left a huge impression on me.

^This many many times. :monster:

Yeah, all of the S Ghibli films I've seen have been completely awesome.

The Cat Returns is good, too. It has some connections to Whisper of the Heart.

(edit: Aaaaand I have just added The Place Promised In Our Early Days to my Netflix fgj.

What, never found the time? Or do you mean that you lost interest/didn't like it?

I thought "Inuyasha: Swords of an Honorable Ruler" was pretty bad-ass for exploring territory the manga and anime barely touched on, that is, the life and legacy of Inuyasha's father. I also loved the NGE movie.

The Sky Crawlers

I want to watch that too! I've seen the trailer and it looked awesome. Although, I am in the mood for some romance, does it have romance in it?

WHAA! I totally cried in the ending part. Especially when the bike passed Makoto, I broke down. XD.

I still don't understand why Chiaki had to say "I'll wait for you in the future"..:(..it kept me hoping til the end

There's going to be another movie made by the same team (or was that just the same director). And it's coming out this year. It looks promising! I can't wait.

Ghost in the Shell was good, Akira was decent, also Iria:Zeiram was good when it was on Sci-Fi, but it actually isnt a movie and is 6 ova's.

Tenchi Muyo in Love was a really good movie as well.

The Sci-Fi channel is where I first noticed anime when I was younger. I saw all those there first and Green Legend Ran, too.

Haven't seen that last one in a loooong time. ^^

Wasn't fond of the Ghost in the Shell anime tbh.

Tried to compress a pretty lengthy story into a short time frame much like a Akira, and just didn't work much for me.

Lupin movies, Miyazaki movies, hell, a bunch of general Animated movies are awesome. Honestly, the ratio of good to bad is about the same as non animated movies. Possibly greater
