Kiigen's Animations and Miscellanious Art.

So, I figured I'd open a topic, I spend alot of time on animations, and can't really get feedback halfway into something, because really I should showcase the final product, and it's hard for people to understand where rough animations are going. Anyways, I may post little finished excerpts of animation to show how well something is coming along... I dunno, but for now, I guess I'll just post some of the works I did. I prefer that my Newgrounds be looked at over the YT videos, which can be found over at Kiigen.Newgrounds.com although for the sake of embedding and convenience, I'll post teh YT vids of what I have so far.

Ryu actually helped Beta Test this for me, back when I was still new in the IRC, I think he was the only person I let know I was working on animations... I felt I'd personally be more excited if no one knew, and opinions weren't biased off being friends with me. That way I can actually get real criticism, which of course is important.

Since I finished The Jenova Cure, I have been working on projects I think are just as funny. They have become big time consuming projects, and after enough time, I'd feel anxious and want to make and release something else, even if it wasn't as funny. Namely this next one, Hadokamochen.

This one was fun to make, but alas, it sucked. It wasn't funny, but it did look great. It was also the first time I used color shading, I did so because someone gave me criticism on Newgrounds suggesting that the shading looked bland using just darker shades of the same color. I think it looks good like that. but, it wasn't funny.

This one I made from July 1st to July 10th. I worked my ass off to make it. It's a remake of the same named Animation minus the Re. I found the concept funny, but I thought that it might've needed a different way to express itself, I asked the original creator's permission to make it and he let me. I had fun with it.

This was for a collab. The goal was to make a 60 Frame animation at 20fps, essentially a 3 second animation. This is my first attempt at Action Sequencing (If that's what it's called). I enjoyed it, and will probably find excuses to have action in my animations from now on.

Not too much more to say... I have alot of projects I'm working on now, and sometimes I regret making them require so much work... I think it'll be worth it in the end, they are fun and I do love where they are headed.

Um, yeah, thassabout it.

Ok!

So, I decided to try something here... Linking my unfinished project to my animation. It's all work in progress and all that stuff. Alot of it is hard to figure out, but it'll slowly be upgraded and changed until it's done. I have a habit of uploading newer versions every couple of days, which honestly, is probably irritating Newgrounds, but previewing and enjoying my own work is how I roll, plus it helps me see how it looks of course.

Anyways, here is what most of my efforts are going to, you're free to look if you want.http://thelifestream.net/forums/doe... more :D [09:01.46] <&Cthulhu> I haven´t done

It's neat to see it as a work in progress, it gives me an idea of how you actually make the videos, which I always thought was a neat process :)

Wow Kiigen, I think that looks awesome. Great composition and pace! However this is going to take you a long time to finish, isn't it?!

Uhm, yeah. It really is... Honestly, I'm hoping for the end of the year, but that's a stretch, it's why I take breaks with small projects when I'm feeling demotivated or feel I've been dead to the world too long. Which is what the unpopular animations spurred from. Remotivating myself and just getting caught up in something new.

That's amazing, Kiigen. I love all the camera angles, and the facial expressions are brilliant! It really is fascinating to see the process. What program do you use?
This kind of hobby is a bit solitary, isn't it? Rather like writing massive multi-chapter Turk fics.... Do you find you get obssessed? Can you sit there for hours on end tinkering with the little details, and not notice the time passing?

Yeah, just how long does something like this typically take?

Well, it's different depending on how I treat the project. Jenova Cure was all about making it as great as it could be for most of the time. I think that took me 5-7 months, I was also able to live unemployed for that time, so Those were pretty much my waking hours spent there. Jenova Cure is what? 2 and a half minutes? I dunno, It's above this post, ye can see it.

Hadokamochen took a few months, more than I wanted too.

Re:Plasmabot took exactly 10 days. however, all I did was take the audio clip from the already existing animation and then redo it entirely. It didn't take too much time to create the mental image of where it was going. It was also 30 seconds.

A Day In Hyrule has been changed sinc I opened it up. It actually started with what was supposed to be a small joke, and evolved... but I'm ok with it. Been working on and off on that and others since February. Alot of the work has been split to other things though... I usually spend and waste time doing some grunt work on it til I look at something rough and then get struck with an idea. Things in this will change before it gets finished.

To Lic:

Yeah, but I like it. I spend all my free time towards it. It's the kinda thing that requires that much dedication or you can't get anything out there. Kinda just happens. Most of the effort goes to the finalizing though... but I usually just keep at it, because one day I'll look at somethng and just come up with how to do it in such a way that I think it's perfect... So I've become ok with working on it as I go.

Bottom line, on a productivity level, alot of time is wasted, but I think that it works out for how well it becomes because of the ideas that come out of being so immersed for so long.

Edit: Oh and I use Flash 8.

Also, thanks guys. I won't get into detail, but your feedback put some motivation back into me. I'm weird like that.

Hey, back from the dead... what's it been... lessee... 2 months at least? Ok, what'd I do since then, I think I shall post.

I made the intro for the series, No Skit! It's my first hired work. (yay.) I did not make the audio for the intro, or anything other than the intro, but the series is somewhat funny. Anyways yeah.

Next up, I made the backgrounds for this animation... Thassabout it for that.

and today I made two characters from PSG in the style of Tetsuya Nomura. How'd I do?
