Amazing trailer and finally we reached the Toy Story in real-time graphics. It would have been nice to have the play arts of Sora as a style for Toy Story world but it's nice anyway.

Edit: please don't be Roxas http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/07/16/kingdom-hearts-3-director-hints-at-second-playable-character

I'm sure we'll get Sora in Toy Story style play arts eventually, seeing how we got Sora and Riku in their Grid forms from DDD.

Second playable character, huh? If that happens, I bet it's Riku in the Realm of Darkness as he and Mickey search for Aqua. Or if we're lucky, Kairi with Lea as her slight side-kick or something.

Anyway, it just occured to me. If KH3 does truly get released next year(that's a big IF because we have no idea if it'll be delayed to 2019 or not yet, so we'd better keep that thought open), it'll be twelve years come true to finally get the true sequel to KH2(back in 2006 for the rest of the world) and at the same time in KH3, it'll be twelve years since Aqua's been trapped in the Realm of Darkness, trying to get back to the Realm of Light.

Just like how we've waited ten years for FFXV(when it was still Versus XIII) and
in the near end of the game itself, the final battle happens ten years later.
Go figure.

Poor Andy. He's gonna come home from school and find half his room covered in water, and his bed on fire. Ease up with the magic, Sora!

@Tasha You may wanna spoiler tag the last line.

-

Lighting in the outdoor environment was just INSANE.

Did that. And it's just Tash, not Tasha, if you please.

Poor Andy. He's gonna come home from school and find half his room covered in water, and his bed on fire. Ease up with the magic, Sora

I'm sure the bedroom will return to normal and Andy doesn't even notice.

wow, the crowd went INSANE at the 2018. I don't blame them, but it's so cool to see everyone get so excited

Also can we talk about nobodies AND unversed being in the trailer? That's pretty fucking epic. It's like a reunion!

^It has been ten years since I made any attempt at understanding the narrative of Kingdom Hearts, so count me out :monster:.

@Thread: As for the Toy Story thing. Looks all right visually. I wonder how large these levels are gonna be.

I didn't see any unversed. Unless you mean thise mechs that Sora controlled. They had a pattern that looked similar to the Unversed symbol. Unless I remember it wrong.

It can only be a sign that Vanitas is making a return, the chessboard in one of the original trailers hinted at him.

DDD also threw a tease out that Vanitas is still there, dormant within Sora.

Anyway, everything shown has been looking great. Except... I guess all of the Xehanort models need some work. Weird, since the young Young Xehanort model looked fine in the old trailer.

And honestly, I personally don't see a delay into 2019. Of course, I can easily be wrong, but I think we're finally there.

Apparently Nomura has been a little peeved that fans primarily blamed him for the long development cycle that Kingdom Hearts 3 has had. Apparently the two major factors that has made the development take so long was the team having to switch to the Unreal Engine 4 and the development team initially having some timing and resources challenges, factors that Nomura said came the top executives and were out of his control/power. He also emphasized that there have been no problems originating from the KH3 development team in of itself or any of his personal choices during production.

Sounds like Nomura felt kinda unfairly judged.

Which makes me feel bad for him. I think Square Enix just liked to have him focus on a lotta things and were not much of second sequel fans to anything(KH3 for example). Kinda makes me feel like the company probably forced this guy to lie to us about the Compilation and only in Janurary this year he was finally allowed to come clean.

Plus as he said, the switch to Unreal Engine 4 did make them start from scratch which I knew when that happened a few years ago, and half the problem with why it took so long was mainly FFXV(before he lost his position as director of the game, even when had it's name changed from Versus XIII) and other FF titles.

I guess he wanted to have KH3 out as much as we wanted it but was forced to wait to get his chance and that's why he gave us so many side-stories and prequels in the first place.

The way he said it, makes me think that the older you get, the more they actually want you to work even harder because your skills are improving and yet they fail to see that you're reaching the point where you can't work anymore, as though they don't want you to even retire once you reach the age when you do want to or just focus on one thing at the time.

It's honestly hard for me to feel bad for the guy. He's notorious for unnecessary perfectionism, so at least some of it is his fault (no matter what he says), and it's always been his own choice to isolate himself instead of maintaining a dialogue with the fanbase.

Another slight new info which will probably be the last until next year...

A Kingdom Hearts III feature will be included in the upcoming Weekly Famitsu issue, and earlier today, Esoteru posted a summary of its highlights online. Since then, more leaks have released from Hachima. Some parts of this have already been covered in the aforementioned highlights summary, but now, we have the information in more detail and new information as well.

Check out the first half, translated by Katie Armstrong, below:
  • Tetsuya Nomura would like for you to wait for the next report, which will be some time in 2018.
  • There was some last-minute post-editing on the D23 and the Orchestral Concert PVs; Nomura wanted to tie things back to something with the word "dive," thinking back to the original concept of KH.
  • There were some strong feelings about the Toy Story world, because Nomura wanted to include it in KH2. Nomura's been negotiating for it since the first KH game. He met with John Lasseter when he came to Japan and told him about every element he wanted to include.
  • The Toy Story world does not take place during the original story, but picks up somewhere after Toy Story 2 and is consistent with the timeline of the movies.
  • This isn’t in the PV, but there is a scene where Sora is mistaken for an action figure of a game character by Rex.
  • Sora and company’s Toy Story world looks were designed by art directors who interacted to combine designs; the first team’s design was similar to action figures while the other group tried to match the aesthetic of Toy Story. The two had to come together and discuss and convince one another to arrive at the final design.
  • The staff was surprised at how easy it was to reproduce the graphic appearance of the original films. The looks of other worlds and gimmicks and such have been difficult for this game.
  • The Toy Story world’s percentage [of completeness] and quality was high enough to be seen earlier, but based on our PR plans it wasn’t shown until now. When they announced the Big Hero 6 world, Nomura could only show one illustration because it was a somewhat sudden request, so this time Nomura wanted to show video.
  • Production on the Big Hero 6 world is going well, though the matter of the last selected world is still ahead of them.
  • Multiple battle commands are displayed in the PV because there is always a choice in what to do in battle, there’s some tactical fun in assembling combos of your choosing. It might seem tough, but I want to reassure you that you can pull off some fancy techniques with the right button combinations.
Check out the second half, translated by News Team member Dengojin, below:
  • Each world will have it's own guest party members and they will have their unique collaboration commands, since it is a new system it will be introduced in details later.
  • Riding a robot to fight was an early idea sent at the beginning of the development to the dev team, each floor of the toy shop will have it's own gimmick.
  • The toy shop will be the main area in the Toy Story world you can enjoy other gimmicks with various toys sold there.
  • There is surprise in the future.*
  • The world where Young Eraqus and Xehanort is an original world. Also he mentions that KH3 will have less worlds than KH2 in numbers, but they will be richer and more playable.
  • There are so many characters, so the story is dark and he is not planning it to end it all at once.
  • Each character story must be settled. This will involve members from the former Organization XIII.
  • Nomura is not directing anything else beside the announced titles, but he is involved with many.
  • Kingdom Hearts Union χ[cross] fifth Union leader chapter has been written and it will be released early August. (It will be cute.)
  • Nomura would like to give us more information about Kingdom Hearts III battle later.
*Pretty vague, maybe referring to the Toy Story world to be full of surprises?

Toy Story is the latest world revealed for Kingdom Hearts III through the trailer unveiled last week at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. The Weekly Famitsu feature, which will recap the event and include an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, will be published on July 20 in Japan. Stay tuned with us for updates and translations!

By dark and by every character's story must be settled in KH3, equels we'll most likely lose our favorites.

My top list of those I'll end up losing and I seriously don't want to end up suffering tragic endings;

1: Kairi, Riku and Sora equally.
2: Lea.
3: Xion.
4: Roxas.
5: Namine.
6: Mickey, Donald and Goofy.
7: Aqua, Ventus and Terra(haven't they suffered enough already?)
8: Isa(probably killed by the guilt-ridden Lea).

And also the fact that the story will be dark meaning that it'll have a sucky/tragic/sad ending which I seriously hoped it wouldn't be the case and I have to wait for another decade for KH4 just to see Sora's journey continue and I don't want him to end up losing his friends again.

As for waiting until next year for more info...I knew that'd be the case, especially when he said, "Final information" last month. I knew it was to be last info for 2017. Typical.

So... the 'Dive' tagline was created recently? I mean, poor use in the D23 aside, I absolutely adore it. Nomura definitely succeeded in invoking the classic KH feel with it.

I guess the next time we see the game it might be getting around a content-finished state.

Oh, dear. I think I just realized something spoilery.

The toys' friends didn't disappear because of the Heartless. This section of the story will end with the heartbreaking discovery that the other toys were just given away or sold (i.e. the status quo at the beginning of "Toy Story 3"), and this will tie thematically to KHIII's main story in some way -- for the characters and the player. Something about growing up and moving on.

I think you may be right. Maybe they'll make a reference of KH3 in Toy Story 4.

Just hope Sora doesn't end up losing any of his friends in KH3 or all of the good main characters(the Destiny Island Trio, the Disney Trio, the Sea-Salt Trio, the Wayward Trio, Namine, Isa) end up suffering tragic or heartbreaking moments.

Surely Master Eraqus will pass on in the afterlife along with Ansem the Wise or something along the lines. And god forbid KH3 has Aerith killed!

Anyway, can't talk much today because I have family emergancy to tend to, so I'll catch up later.

How funny would it be if there's a copy of Final Fantasy VII sitting innocuously on a shelf. Toy Story 1 and 2 have a gap of 1995 to 1999, but I think TS2 takes place in 1996-1997, right when FFVII came out
