:rabite:learly needs moar valid reasons to discuss music, nothing works better than for everyone to post their weekly charts, on a weekly basis with a little write-up and whatnot. And then discussions go from there. Talk about why you like the artists, what albums you've listened to by them, whatever. Please just don't post useless copy-pasta of your weekly charts though, for great fail. :monster:

1 Dead Kennedys 45
Best punk band ever, end of discussion, a couple of spins of In God We Trust, Bedtime for Democracy and Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death. I still don't know what I prefer more, their short blurry highly energetic punk songs. Or the ones where the guitars and vocals are produced properly and you can sing along.
2 David Bowie 39
Been reviewing David Bowie recently, listened to Ziggy and Pin Ups a few times. This guy is so awesome, shame about everything after the 70's. Well I actually like Tin Machine.
3 Sleepy Sun 29
Best new band ever. Awesome stuff. Been whoring out to their only album, and their live iTunes exclusive.
4 Frank Zappa 18
Sheik Yerbouti, that's an order. Oh and Zappa is God.
5 Mountain Ash Band 16
The Hermit is the best album you've never heard. Great folk from 1975.
6 maudlin of the Well 13
Part the Second (what the hell did you think I was named after?) and My Fruit Psychobells, will definitely listen to the rest of their albums, and PtS again today.
7 Hugh Hopper & Alan Gowen 12
Another album you'll never have heard of. R.I.P. Hugh Hopper, (died a few days ago :( so I felt I needed to dust off this instrumental gem from the 80's) The album is Two Rainbows Daily, that better be a drug reference.
7 Samla Mammas Manna 12
Maaltid is my tidy album, I always put on this swedish RIO band whenever I'm tidying, it's severly awesome.
7 Drudkh 12
Two listens of their new album, need to listen wayyy more.
10 Joy Division 11
Substance. One of the few worthwhile compilations of any band.
10 Enslaved 11
MARDRAUM BEYOND THE WITHIN. Best album ever.
12 John Martyn 9
Solid Air, for a review.
12 Kreator 9
Pleasure to Kill is the greatest Thrash album ever.
14 Toby Driver 4
TOBY DRIVER, YOU'VE BEEN DOWN TOO LONG IN THE MIDNIGHT SEAA, OOOOH WHAT'S BECOOOMING OF MEEE
15 Mike Oldfield 2
Tubular bells is awesome.

So yeah, poast up :monster:

last week's charts:

1 Kayo Dot 73
Most of this was Choirs of the Eye, one of the best albums ever, but there were a fair bit of their other two full-lengths in here too. Amazing stuff.

2 Mastodon 68
Most of this was Crack the Skye. I got the instrumental version, which doesn't have as much dynamic range compression as the official CD release, so it's nice to listen to. Still prefer the version with vocals though. Think there's a play each of the demo and their first three albums in here as well.

3 Neurosis 60
Amazing band is amazing. A lot of this was Times of Grace but I also threw in Enemy of the Sun, Souls at Zero, Given to the Rising and Through Silver in Blood. The entire genre of post-metal pretty much wouldn't exist without Neurosis.

4 Neurosis & Tribes of Neurot 44
Mixed Times of Grace & Grace owns your soul.

5 maudlin of the Well 38
I played most of the discography last week iirc, I just left out My Fruit Psychobells and a few of the bonus tracks.

6 Sigh 37
Mostly the reissue of Imaginary Sonicscape, which is god damned amazing. There really aren't many better psychedelic metal bands than Sigh.

7 Panopticon 28
Gave each of their releases two plays each. Amazing black metal.

8 Univers Zero 23
Really weird RIO. I like it precisely because it's so weird. This was Ceux du Dehors and Implosion, which are currently the only two I have. I need to get moar of their stuff.

9 Drudkh 21
Mostly the new album. Drudkh are one of the most consistent black metal bands out there.

9 Television 21
Marquee Moon + Adventure + a few bonus tracks. One of the best bands of the punk era, beyond question.

11 Hüsker Dü 15
New Day Rising finally finished downloading so I listened to it in CD quality for the first time in like eight years (my CD got lost/stolen in high school and I never bothered replacing it because I didn't care about sound quality until recently and didn't have the faintest idea where to find a CD-quality version until even more recently). The entire genre of "alternative rock" wouldn't really exist without Hüsker Dü; whether that's a good thing or not depends on your view of the genre, but they had an undeniably amazing gift for songcraft. Basically a more melodic Dead Kennedys.

12 Talking Heads 12
Remain in Light, aka one of the best albums of the '80s.

13 Amesoeurs 11
Played through the self-titled once for great justice. It's still one of my favourite albums of the year, I think.

13 Tribes of Neurot 11
The ambient/even moar experimental counterpart to Neurosis, containing all of the same band members. This is Grace, which is intended to be played alongside Neurosis' Times of Grace. I played it once on its own just to aid me with hearing all the details.

15 Henry Cow 10
Western Culture, which is one of the weirdest (and best) prog/RIO albums I've ever heard. I need to listen to moar of their stuff.

I'll poast again when my weekly charts from this week show up; if I just used the "Last 7 Days" chart on my main page there'd be a bit of overlap so cba.

Holy shit, I never noticed the weekly snapshot shit for users. Awesome. I'll use that next week :valid:

I notice Henry Cow and Univers Zero but no Etron Fou Leloublan or Samla Mammas Manna there, for shame.

SMM didn't bowl me over on first play, maybe it'll do moar on replay. I still need to listen to Etron Fou Leloublan but lazy.

That's because you fail SMM > Etron Fou > Univers > Stormy Six > Henry Cow.

But at the end of the day RIO is always win.

1. Cypress Hill 199
I've been completely obsessed with the slow rolling beats of cypress hill for ages and the more I listen the more I love it.

2. Gorillaz 66
Most listens have been from Demon Days because that album is godly to listen to when stoned.

3. ISIS 51
Still waiting on aaron to send the pre celestial albums. >_>

4. Architects 44

harls sent me their Hallow Crown album which is now the 2nd best metalcore album i've ever heard (which is good considering most metalcore is pure garbage anyway).

5. Oasis 41
Probably all from What's the Story Morning Glory, I don't like the other albums as much.

I'd post mine, but it seems completely buggered and I doubt I've only listened to 90 or 100 tracks the last seven days, let alone I got 16 listens on Devin Townsend during that period. The 36 for Ulver seem to be about right though.

The last six months seems a bit buggered too. I'm sure that the two at the top, Ulver and motW are okay, but Finntroll at 3? And 65 listens to Cradel of Filth? I think not.

Note also that Last.fm quit scrobbling my iPod months ago, and didn't work properly even before that (registering 70 listens for a single track, for example).

Last.fm doesn't scrobble my iPod correctly anymore either. I just replay tracks on the iPod from the computer now when it misses them. I should probably goan update iTunes, but I can't really be arsed.

Decided for the sake of completion to have a little lap over the first week and just do the weekly snap shots.
1 Dead Kennedys 45
2 David Bowie 39
As before
3 maudlin of the Well 38
Entire discography -bonus tracks, love this band, just took me a long time to realise how much.
4 Sleepy Sun 37
Embrace is kicking my arse, this might take top spot of 2009 from Part the Second
5 Kiran Leonard 26
13 year old electronic artists ftw, listened to one of his albums twice for a review.

The rest are unchanged from the first poast.

1. Sigh - 117
I was a Sigh addict this week. Played Imaginary Sonicscape more than anything else, but a lot of other albums from their discography saw play as well.

2. Ulver - 77
A ton of stuff. I've recently (within the past few months) realised the greatness of Perdition City and Blood Inside. Most of the rest of their major albums were included in this count as well.

3. maudlin of the Well - 40
Complete discography. I'd be remiss if I let a week pass by without listening to motW.

4. Nobuo Uematsu - 32
Scattered tracks from FFVI, FFVII, FFIX and FFX. On a Final Fantasy forum I shouldn't really have to add anything further :monster:

5. Dead Kennedys - 31
Scattered tracks from throughout their discography combined with complete plays of In God We Trust, Inc. and Plastic Surgery Disasters. Probably my favourite hardcore band ever.

6. Tom Waits - 27
Nighthawks at the Diner + Bone Machine. Two very different albums, both of them awesome.

7. Neurosis & Tribes of Neurot - 22
Two plays of the merged Times of Grace & Grace. Awesome.

8. Sorgsvart - 21
Anarchist viking metal. You can't really lose.

9. The Soft Boys - 19
Psychedelic band from the late 70s/early 80s which wound up being a huge influence on R.E.M. among other artists. Underwater Moonlight is a minor classic.

10. Mayhem - 17
Wolf's Lair Abyss, Grand Declaration of War, and a few other tracks scattered throughout their discography. Obviously I like their avant-garde metal stuff the most.

10. Yes - 17
Going for the One, Relayer, and a few scattered other tracks. Awesome prog is awesome.

12. Drudkh - 13
This was two plays of Microcosmos, though Decadence for some reason got an additional play. Album is awesome.

13. The Moody Blues - 12
In Search of the Lost Chord, a psychedelic classic.

14. Negură Bunget - 11
Listened to Om. That album is absolutely transcendent.

15. Henry Cow - 10
Another play of Western Culture.

15. Fen - 10
Atmospheric black metal from Britain sounding kind of like Wolves in the Throne Room, Fauna, Negură Bunget and other similar artists. Very impressed on first listen; listened to both their album and their EP.

1 Green Day 51
Epic angsty week led to shitloads of Green Day
2 Windir 35
Spammed a bit of Windir while tidying and playing FFVII, everyone needs to hook up with this epic black metal.
3 Samla Mammas Manna 24
Maaltid twice by the looks of it. Such an awesome album.
4 Michael Jackson 19
The king is dead, long live the (dead) king!
5 Mountain Ash Band 16
The Hermit is such an awesome album.
6 Drudkh 12
I seriously need to give Microcosmos moar spins, way moar.
7 Gentle Giant 9
Octopus + a random track by accident, one of the best prog bands ever.
7 Led Zeppelin 9
I honestly don't remember listening to Zeppelin last week xD, probably debut album though.
7 Enslaved 9
I fucking love Enslaved, needs to stop making shitty music.
10 Cromagnon 8
Holy shit orgasm is amazing considering it was released in 1968
10 The Mars Volta 8
Octahedron, really growing on me.
10 Sleepy Sun 8
Embrace is my second favourite 2009 release.
13 Camel 7
Camels debut was a pretty awesome prelude to what was to come.
14 Wishbone Ash 6
And so was Wishbone Ash's
15 Univers Zero 5
Really need to play these guys wayyy moar before I can get a full impression.

1. La Roux, 23 Plays

Her first, self-titled, album just came out and that's what I've been listening to. Not all of her songs are fantastic, but a number of them are definitely worth mentioning. This artist is a fresh mix of heavy 80s sounds and synthpop and electro, etc. A big number of these listens are due to "Bulletproof".

2. Lily Allen, 21 Plays

A British pop singer. For some reason I just adore this music. There's something I just get out of most of her songs that isn't usually there, I think. I just have her one album from this year.

3. Versant, 17 Plays

Carah Faye Charnow's new band. Simply amazing. They've only released two demos, but they're awesome. Can't stop listening. Good electronica music. Plus, Charnow's voice just pulls you in.

4. Epica, 16 Plays

They're simply one of, if not my number one, favorite bands. Symphonic metal is good for me.

5. Dragonette, 14 Plays

Just got my hands on their entire album titled Glamore. Good electronic music.

6. Rush, 10 Plays

Also just received their music: Permanent Waves, Rush, 2112 (albums). I think I particularaly like the first of the three CDs.

7. Sublime, 5 Plays

I only have the 40 Oz. album. Nice chill music.

8. Daft Punk, 4 Plays

They're just amazing.

9. Shiny Toy Guns, 4 Plays

I tend to listen to more of the old STG with Carah, but have the new album and listen to it when it comes up in the shuffle.

10. My Chemical Romance, 3 Plays

They snuck up in this list. Still, I like them.
