Maybe... perhaps Hollywood should find other stories and learn to gather better inspiration of the world. Like Doom: Repercussions of evil, I'm sure they can translate that into film easily.

This is how you know the world's going to fucking end. Every conceivable idea in terms of media and entertainment has been sucked dry and thus Hollywood has to cannibalize itself and rehash all these old franchises.

This fucking Avatar film was doomed from the start. I see it as maybe a marginally better film than Dragonball Evolution. And that's being optimistic.

Fucking tired of all my favorite things getting raped into the ground. It's like Ultimecia's reaching into my mind and turning all my happy childhood memories against me.

Hey Bryan Singer isn't that bad a director. And to be honest, what the fuck was he supposed to do with that mediocre series with that shitty ass script?

Fuck I meant Brett Ratner. Singer is the one who directed the others and that shitty Superman film.

Brett Ratner did make Rush Hour - 2...which mother always loved. But 3 was a shitter.

Singer shoulda used Doomsday in superman returns. fags always sticks to luthor. =( You know. Nemesis not seen in film and then the nemesis everyone generally knows.

Like Batman. Ras Al Ghul and Scarecrow. And then Joker with Two Face.

I can't hate Ratner too much for X-Men 3 given the use of "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" but other than that it was a wholly forgettable film with little characterisation to speak of. But yeah, that's not really Ratner's fault since he apparently had no part in the script.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to have two more sequels making it a trilogy, which'll span over the next 6 years to make (estimated).

First trailer with very little clippage

The Last Airbender's character mug shots have made their debut. And when we say mugshots... we mean... mugshots. I'm a bit irked that Kitara isn't black... or coloured at all... same with Sokka. But it's not a huge zomg deal that everyone's making it out to be. Other than that, they do look like them somewhat.

I wanna see it despite its awefulness... I really worry how an anime for 6-10 year olds will translate into L-A for what looks to be adults... it's fucking Shyamalan, he's creepy as fuck with his movies. x;

Well, I've only seen a few episodes and have never really been a fan. I must say though, I would like to maybe see this film and then go watch the series to compare/contrast, or vice versa. :monster:

I'd say the fact they completely turned their back on the multicultural theme of Avatar, is a big deal, tbh :monster:

How do you get a cast of all white people...from a show that specifically designed its cast with multicultural intent to showcase how different people and cultures could band together against a common threat?

It just reeks of subtle racism to me, and its another nail in the coffin for the Avatar movie.

They're still banding together against a common threat. They just needed to make the originally white-skinned villain darker so you know he's evil and not like the righteous and now all-Whitey protagonists :monster:

I never watched the original. Don't know if I'll watch this.

LOL, exactly. Only dark skinned people are evil. That's why they're dark! :awesome:

The cartoon series is really, really good for something that's come out today. It's not the shit you'd expect to see churned out of Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. It's very entertaining, has a nice plot, good humor that's not stupid, and very polished animation. I'd definitely recommend it. But please, don't support this commercial mockery of the series. I'd put it up there with Dragonball Evolution in terms of failitude.

Alright so I took a look at the information for this film on a few various sites (Wikipedia, IMDB [though I hardly go there anymore for movie news], etc.) and I have to say that I'm really disappointed with their casting choices.

Like Mako said, the intent of the Avatar show was to depict the multiple nationalities that thrived in these fictional places. Like for example, I've always felt that the Water Tribe symbolized the real life Inuit peoples of Alaska while the EarthBenders had varying nationalities: European/East-Asian to me.

The fact that M. Night Shymalan decided to cast a decidedly almost-all White cast already shows that he's going against the original intent of the show. If he's already drastically changing the nationalities of the characters then just imagine what he'd do to the original plotline.

why is the fire tribe so dark when they're supposed to be Eastern Asians? Nice job Shamalamadingdong.

LOL RACEBENDING. :awesome:

lolol racebending...

I'd have to say that the actors do look like who they're supposed to be... Aang is done quite well considering he isn't completely white, but he's not all that coloured to begin with. He actually kinda freaks me out there a bit. :monster:

But Katara and Sokka do need to be black.. or have some colour.

But I'm a whitey so I'm not all that bothered :awesome:

I'm more interested to see the content of the films... with it being made into a trilogy, I wonder if they'll make each book/season into a film and try compress it that way, or if they'll be their own stand alone films after the anime..

I'm just annoyed that a world that was so obviously Asian (complete with Chinese kanji in the Earth Nation), has been whitewashed. Because clearly, white people hate watching people who don't look like themselves.

When rly that's been the complete opposite reaction. I don't know, maybe they couldn't find anyone to look the part enough... who could also act?

I could give you a website which contains all the great alternatives for each of the characters but the big thing as to why they weren't hired?

They weren't white. Not to mention how utterly stupid the casting agent woman is. ("If you're Korean, show up in a kimono" my fucking ass.)

That doesn't explain the villain. They seemed to find plenty of good white actors for the heroes, why not the villain? Are there only 3 good white child actors? :monster:
