Man of Steel / Justice League / DC films

Im conflicted in this. On the one hand, Cranstons an awesome actor and Id love to see what he does with Lex. On the other, I don't want him to be typecast as evil bald guy.

hmmmm I hope they dont dilute dilute this by doing her origin story. Keep that for her own film. This is getting further and further away from the standalone sequel that Man of Steel deserves

You know when a lot of people (myself included) said that chick from Fast 6 would be awesome as Wonder Woman we meant Gina Carano. Ben Affleck being cast as Batman I'm willing to give a shot because he's a damn good actor but from what I've seen of Gal Gadot in the Fast & Furious movies she's not even close to being one.

Also the Man of Steel sequel is turning into the Justice League in all but name.

Ben Affleck talks about his role as Batman:

It was a unique take on Batman that was still consistent with the mythology. It made me excited. All of a sudden I had a reading of the character. When people see it, it will make more sense than it does now or even than it did to me initially.

. . . I don't want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn't compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon. It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill's Superman character.

Sounds like we're going the urban myth route for the Bat. He's been around a while already, but no one except cowardly/superstitious mooks believes in him... until one day a flying brick in a red cape got everybody's attention. Then all of Gotham did go "hmmmm... so if that happened, is that Batman guy real too?"

I quite like Jeremy Irons being cast as Alfred, I'm not seeing Jesse Eisenberg doing a good performance as Lex Luthor, I hope I'm wrong because if I'm not I'm going to absolutely hate this movie.

I would have rather Dwayne Johnson been cast as Lex if they wanna do a different take on him.
He can have an air of authority, he's imposing, and and actually act pretty well. Plus with his physique you could have him want to be the epitome of human perfection, in body and mind. It would also help give him a reason to hate Superman so much.

Oh well.

No.

Im tired of villains being just as large or larger as Superman. I'm ok with Ben being around the same build as Henry for sake of setting up some contrast to the true villain but having yet another meat head in the film just because its also "different" is really dumb imo.

Not to mention imagine its modern day. What do captains of industry look like? Do they look like Dwayne or do they look like Jesse?

Imagine Lex Luthor captain of industry not unlike our own Elon Musk, Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Superman doesnt see him as an equal and writes him off, Batman thinks he can just eat up his corporation up and do away with him.

After countless hours and resources spent fighting each other on the brink of exhaustion and failure Batman and Superman look up and the one pulling the strings all along was this smirking Lex Luthor that was the unseen threat.

Its perfect.

... Gabe, you do know that Luthor in the comics has been ripped as a motherfucker for just about as long as he's been a corrupt corporate guy right? He actually does that "strive for physical as well as mental perfection/superiority" thing. I remember a monologue of his (I think from All-Star Superman maybe?) ironically delivered to Clark Kent about how he feels his impressive yet still human physique and strength are worth more than Superman's incredible planet moving strength because he had to EARN it through sweat and pain and so forth. So yeah, someone with a pro-wrestler's musculature would be fine for Lex... if they could pull off the part while they were at it.

Im aware. Thats why I said im tired of this :monster:
He strives to be the absolute peak of perfection because of his humanitarian views. He absolutely loathes the fact that to the rest of the Earth the idea of perfection is an Alien instead of a Human. Thats classic Lex Luthor.

Its also old.

You should check out Superman: Birthright.

I like that they chose Jesse Eisenberg over all. He can really pull off an asocial condescending genius. Who has the balls to fuck with Superman just because he can.

I'm reserving final judgement for when the movie is out but I can see where there going with this and I absolutely am ok with this.

I... somehow missed that. Think I musta read the whole thing and had my brain just utterly fail to retain a few words here and there :monster: And while I would be just fine with a muscular and fit Luthor for the reasons I stated and you were already aware of, I'm perfectly alright with what you described as well. You got the right idea on one thing for sure: I think we should all just reserve judgement until we see actor and character come together, see how it comes out.

I have seen Man of Steel a couple of times now. It isn't entirely bad. Took a lot of liberties, and that fine. I do however have one question. Why did they feel the need to make it an origin story? I understand the need for an origin story for most characters, but it seems rather pointless for Superman. Is there anyone that doesn't know the broad strokes of the Superman story? Alien, raised in middle America, reporter.

I assume because they want it to be the official starting point for the DCCU which necessitates an origin story, especially if they're gonna gloss over Batman's.
