Count me in!

Kuja is one of my three favourite villains/characters of all time!

My first contribution for this club - two Kuja galleries:

The first one features Kuja artwork and CG footage from FFIX and Dissidia.

The second one is full of Kuja pics from Dissidia.

Highlights? This one:

After all these years, it's still a beautiful picture to look at and it captures Kuja's magnificence in a splendid way, imo!

The pleasure is all mine! :monster:

More contributions will follow, but for now, I'll just make my usual “why I like [insert character name here]?” ranting.

So…What do I like about Kuja?

I, for instance, like the way he sees everything as a theatre play, adding a Shakespearean perspective to Final Fantasy villainy.

Something also very interesting about Kuja is his intricate background, with him being created as an Angel of Death, destined to wreck havoc in Gaia. There also very surprising elements to his background, like the fact that Kuja was created exactly how he is now. In contrast to Zidane, Kuja never was a child. He was born exactly as we see him in FFIX. That’s kind of twisted, but very intriguing nonetheless.

I also like Kuja’s personality. His intelligence; his manipulative demeanour; his majestic way of speech; his coldness…

Concerning Kuja’s voice, I’m glad that they chose Akira Ishida to voice him, because I think he did a wonderful job. His voice really fits Kuja’s personality and demeanour. Let’s just hope that whoever is voicing Kuja in the English version of Dissidia can do the same good job as Ishida.

Kuja also has a lot of great lines throughout FFIX. I like how his lines have a sense in poetry in them, being very beautiful and memorable.

But my favourite line is this one:

“I won’t have it! I won’t let this world exist without me!”

This line in particular is very striking, almost overwhelming! With the tension of the situation at hand, it sent chills down my spine!

In a more plot-specific point, i like how Kuja was able to manipulate everyone in order for him to reach his purposes, but I like especially how Kuja was able to gain the strength he long sought while his enemies were fighting each other, by absorbing the souls in the Invincible and cause his own Trance.

Wich leads us to his power. I admire Kuja's power as Trance Kuja.

By achieving his own Trance, Kuja became a godlike being, being able to destroy largely destroy Terra in a short amount of time.

And that was my favourite moment in FFIX, not only due to the fact that it shows Kuja’s power, but also because of the expression of his face, when the camera goes around him. He looks so sad but, at the same time, so pure and divine.

Concerning Kuja's design, i like how they made him an androgynous and graceful figure, yet mysterious and intimidating at the same time

I also like his uniform very much, with his striking and unique design and his Trance mode is also very memorable.

Finally, a bit of symbolism about Kuja’s name…

Did you knew that Kuja is a Hindu god? The name “Kuja” means "son of the earth" (and Terra is another name for “earth”). Kuja is also known in Hinduism as the equivalent of Mars, the Red Planet. Also very fitting, since Terra's "light" is red.

These are the reasons why Kuja, together with Kefka and Sephiroth, is my favourite character, not only from Final Fantasy but from all media in general!

Kuja's probably my favourite villain in the series after Kefka. I'll lurk at the very least.

Sounds good.

Oh, and , great reasons Dark. I don't think I could say it any better myself. I'm not too good at describing things totally IMO.

Kuja's amusing but he pisses me off. I'll never get over the fact that he's a fucking spell spammer. He's an interesting antagonist though, but fighting him is always a bitch and his cocky and flamboyant attitude just makes dying to him all the more annoying :monster:

As much as I love him, I always found him easy to beat, and I'll be honest on that. Which is a shame, my poor Kuja..

The first time i faced him, I thought he was hard. I was at low levels, wich didn't help either.

In the following playthroughs, though, i thought he was quite easy to beat.

Kuja is always who I think of when I hear purple monkey dishwasher. Also, FFIX is my favorite Final Fantasy and therefore I eagerly wish to join in all related fandoms :awesomonster:

^^ which makes him the best! let me join Flow-chan. :awesomonster:
i wonder why Zidane and the others couldn't even beat his ultima in the last battles - battle in terra with Garland, too. Anyone tell me why?

I hereby welcome you to the club! :monster:

As for your question...

I think it's because it's too powerful to put up any kind of effective defense against it.

eh? but i think my characters have survived ultima, in other FFs, i just don't know where. Or is it just SS made the Ultima powerful by making FFIX characters not being able to stand it?

Trance kuja :awesomonster:

Actually, Ultima is usually the most powerful black magic in FF games, but FFIX's Ultima is, by far, its most powerful depiction in the entire series.

You won't find any another Ultima in any other FF game that can largely destroy a planet in a short amount of time like the one Trance Kuja uses.

in FFVIII, Adel's Ultima seems not to be so powerful as Kuja's. And the trance probably added more power to the magic. :monster:

is it something like Safer Sephiroth's Supernova? More powerful?

In terms of gameplay, we can't compare Trance Kuja's Ultima to Adel's Ultima or Sephiroth's Supernova, because TK's Ultima is more a plot-element than an ability, since he uses it to inflict a plot-staged outcome. There's no way a party can survive it.

In terms of story/plot, Kefka's Light of Judgement and Sephiroth's Negative Lifestream can be compared to Kuja's Ultima, although Ultima still has the upper hand not only in terms of raw destructive power, but in speed also.

yeah, in short. TK's Ultima is just awesome. I shouldn't question his power anymore. :monster:

FFIX would be the best if kuja was playable :awesomonster:

Lol!

There would be no use for party members, then!

In a sense, that's good, since they would be all vaporized the moment Kuja entered in Trance and used Ultima to blow up the battlefield. :monster:

yeah, but of course. Monsters would be like necron if kuja was there. And Kuja doesn't even need to trance to defeat him. But eventually, hitting characters with black magic causes trance. WTF.

Kuja's kind of like Beatrix in that if the player could control him, it would pretty much break gameplay. Same reason Beatrix is only controllable for one scene.
