Mighty No. 9 - Totally not Mega Man except it's Mega Man

Keiji Inafune was upset at having his Mega Man projects canceled at Capcom so he decided to make his own Mega Man clone and finance it via Kickstarter. And the fandom rejoiced.
The game got funded in less than 2 days and if it reaches $2.5 million, there'll be console versions.

They love him because he's Inafune's latest child. Most people don't expect him to be a shadow, but the next incarnation, a la X, Legends, Battle Network, Z, ZX, and Star Force all being their own things.
