Fang/Vanille are just as clear as Cloud/Tifa if not more so, so idgi.

THIS

THIS IS THE ROOT OF MY ISSUE

You continue to use the word "sexual" when we are trying to express that the relationship is romantic.

I hope you realize what's wrong with that wording and why it makes a difference. :|

I still disagree. I don't see it as romantic, and I do not consider it as clear as Cloud and Tifa.

I guess I never answered the question presented: do I think that my opinion would be different if Fang remained a male character?

The answer is 'possibly'. Depending on how things were portrayed, maybe I would have thought there was more, then again, maybe not.

How things were shown in the game... It would be speculated, possibly. I don't see anything that I would have explicitly seen as 'sexual.'

With Zack and Aerith, it's been told to us; as far as I know, it's not with Fang and Vanille. Again, if Square Enix says differently, I'll bite.

does it have to be stated to us like we're retarded in order for us to see it as romantic?

idk I feel like people only disregard this pairing because society has this idea that fictional lesbians are all about sex appeal and pandering to fanboys, which really bothers me.

I guess then I am retarded, because I see it as someone giving a real damn about someone else (and the only person she knows in a brand new world). Could that be taken as romantic? Well, if you do, fine.

Fang says she will tear down the sky/set the world on fire to save Vanille.

They make a pact that leads to them being together for eternity.

How much "more" do you need?

Is this the fanclub for the Fang and Vanille pairing or is it the bitching about lesbians thread?

Eh - they have enough thought towards them. :awesome:

They make a pact that leads to them being together for eternity.

They want to be together forever because Lindzei/Barthandelus destroyed their home. They had no one else left.

(Which makes me think they aren't really from Oerba, but whatever - we don't know that for sure.)

I'm pretty certain the tearing down the sky thing sets things in stone. You don't say that for just anyone, even if you're as close as family or even best friends. The thought put into the phrase, and the tone matter too.

(Yes, I seriously did want to join the FC..)

No, they want to stay together forever because of a strong emotional connection.

They love each other. That's obvious to me. Them being in love isn't. Definitely not as much as it is to the majority here.

When you're in love with someone, though, doesn't there need to be some sort of sexual element? Not that I'm some omniscient expert on the subject, but I always thought that it's what differentiates romantic love from other forms.

Seeing as it's a T rated game, I doubt they're really going to even imply it much. Not that I'm saying it cna't be, but it's not really a priority..I know, VII had the whole Honey Bee Inn and all, but..still.

My problem is more the way it's being used in this situation. It ties into what Winter was saying about lesbians only being there for sex appeal or fanservice; it comes across like that's the real underlying argument. Maybe it's not, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. :\

Them being in love isn't. Definitely not as much as it is to the majority here.

And I come back to, would romantic intent be obvious to you if Fang, as a man, said "I'd tear down the sky to save her", turn on the team (twice) to "save" Vanille, sleep in the same bed as her, and be content to spend the rest of eternity with her and her alone? Is it the presentation or the fact that Fang is a woman?

You're totally wrong Zee. Fanille is a totally platonic and chaste relationship. Did you not get the memo? Female sexuality does not exist.

Lesbians and homosexuals are so M RATED after all.

Wow...wait to take it much farther then it had to..I'm not saying homosexuality in of itself is M rated, I meant in terms of SEXUAL aspects of a relationship.

It's actually kinda sad that in our culture sex and sexuality is rated with far more sensitivity than violence. :\

@Flow- Thanks for clarifying. :monster: Still though, T rated games still have some pretty risque sexual themes. FFVII anyone? [Insert another game I cba to think of myself]

Really though, I don't think there needs to be implied sex for one to recognize an intimate relationship. Fang and Vanille don't act like any pair of sisters I've ever seen. Aki also made an excellent point. If one of them were male and they were hugging, touching, saying he'd tear down the sky for her, people would call it love. I don't think it's right to downplay what's going on here just because they're both female.

Question: How is being into the same gender as yourself more sexual than being into the opposite gender?
How about Snow and ...... crap forgot her name. His gonna be wife.
The fact that they're going to get married implies they're gonna have sex so really their relationship is more sexually implicating than Fang and Vanille's would be.

.. Serah? Sarah? Whatever. However you spell it. I just remembered the name.

But yeah, just because two woman may love each other doesn't have anything to do with any sexual aspects really.

I dunno man, Serah doesn't seem like the type to easily put out. Snow also strikes me of a bit of a one pump chump. Fang and Vanille would probably have a WAY more awesome sex life to be perfectly honest.

Yeah, but when you get married that's what you do for your wedding night. It's tradition and the way you validate your marriage. You're consummating your marriage. So even if they don't ever do it again, they'd do it once.
Though Snow talks about wanting tons of kids so I think he's expecting some boom boom. XD
Fanille's smex would be way hotter though. And more active.

Did I say it was more sexual? I meant sexuality in general.

As for risque sexual game content, well sure..in VII's case though, it was more comediclly based. If it were used in XIII, I can see it being a lot more serious, because of the game's over all nature. Do you think, from that view, they could of fit it in well with the narrative of their character development, if they were that open about it?

That was what I was trying to get at.

okay one, people have sex even when they aren't married
two, why would a married couple have sex only once

this is boggling my mind rn

No that was in response to them saying that Snow and Serah don't seem liek the sexual type of couple. I was just saying they're gonna do it at least once. That's all. It has nothing to do with if they'd already done it or not.And I wasn't saying they'd never do it again either. I was only stating that they're going to do it at least one time.
