My collection of PS1 games mostly from the Japanese store on a PAL PS3 says otherwise :awesome:

Never tried from the US store, but I assume it'd be the same.

Srsly? D:

I just assumed they would retain the regional lockout from ye olde PS1 days. :monster:
Now I only have to figure out how to get US PSN cards that aren't outrageously overpriced (e.g. 30€ for a 20$ card - 20 USD are approx. 13 Euro, mind you).

Because apparently it only accepts US credit cards, otherwise I'd have used my Visa to pay D:

Unsurprisingly, FFVI is to follow it.

Wonder if they'll ever hit a point where they start putting up PS2 games (they already did put up the PoP trilogy) or better yet - PSP games that can be played on your PS3? Full screen Crisis Core and War of the Lions ftw. :monster:

War of the Lions ftw. :monster:

This please. I've seriously considered buying a PSP just for that game.

Also, gj for FFVI. Will definitely be buying it.

Haven't played XII, so don't particularly care about Balthier.

However, I just realized that I make enough cash in two work days to pay for a PSP and ~three games.

I THINK I MAY GO SHOPPING AFTER WORK TODAY

Any other PSP recs besides FF titles/Valkyrie Profile?

Apart from FF titles, if you really like Tactics - Tactics Ogre and Jeanne D'Arc are the same type of game.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony for your traditional RPG fix. Half-Minute Hero is a really cool, esoteric game. Lumines and Patapon are puzzle choices. God of War fans have spoken very highly of the PSP entries, I just never got into that series. I dunno if KH counts as FF, but Birth By Sleep might have been best one in a long long time.

LUNAR AND LUMINES

OMG I MISS LUMINES

And you cam never go wrong with Lunar. The PSP version is a remake in the vein of FFT and VP - lots of little extras that are very noticeable and AWESOMEEEEE.

Also, try Star Ocean for another classic RPG, and Persona, which people (especially Aki) swear by.

Castlevania Dracula X chronicles.

If you like Megaman games, Maverick Hunter X and Megaman Powered up are good. Lots and lots of replay for paltformers.

Oh, and speaking as someone who's owned every iteration of Lunar Silver Star save the original Sega CD, get the new one.

I need to find a ROM of magic academy or something.

Games for PSP? Well, what kind of games do you like =O? The recommendations above me are fine games. Anyway, here's what I remember, aside from Final Fantasy:

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is pretty good. Prinny 2 is fine, but a little hard. Monster Hunter is awesome too, it takes time to dominate AND enjoy it, but it's really good. Do you like Metal Gear? Because there are two MGS games for the PSP; Portable Ops and Peace Walker: both are great.

There is a great RPG franchise that sadly is kinda unknown; Breath of Fire. The third game of the saga was remade/ported (I don't remember lol) for the PSP. Totally recommended. Don't worry, it works as a stand-alone game, you won't need to catch up any past game to enjoy the story.

Dynasty Warriors has games on the PSP, I haven't played them, but DW is awesome so... Recommended? Meh, dunno. Oh, and there's a Blazblue for PSP apparently. Personally I don't know shit about BB other than it's a fighting game, but people talk REALLY GOOD THINGS about it. You could google info about it or something and see if it convinces you, IDK. Also, God of War. Do you like God of War? I like God of War :monster:.

And... That's it, at least until I remember something else.

Anyway, overall the PSP is a really good console with excellent games. It's a great moment to buy it, at least IMO. =D

PSP games also have the bonus of not being tied down by regions, so you can probably buy a buttload of cheap games off eBay without ever having to worry about region-locking bullshit. :monster:

I'm a big RPG fan (surprise surprise) but I'll play any genre, really.

OTOH, it makes the story better if you've played the first 2.
They should release BOF4 for the PSN.
Then we can have "Pre-cataclysmic prequel or alternate universe" discussions again.

Though speaking of games Europe was shafted on the first time around to America never got their PSP versions, Tales of Eternia. It's an RPG. Fights are like 2D fighters, with a combo system, combo counter, etc. It also has one of my favorite heroes of all times, since his motivation doesn't really change throughout the game, just the scale he applies it to at the time. You can get a copy of this for reasonable prices on Ebay, though, so no worries.

Sounds like good news for your PE game, Tets,

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will soon begin offering downloadable, emulated version of original PlayStation games that were previously only available in Japan and the United States.

Publishers can now submit their Japanese and American PlayStation titles for approval by SCEE, where they will be considered for release "as is" with original Japanese or English language game content.

Such titles will still need ratings from local ratings boards before seeing European release, and will need to comply with legal requirements for licensed content such as included real-world products, sports stadiums and music.

Titles will run at the original 60 Hz refresh rate used by Japanese and U.S. NTSC TVs, meaning older European TVs that run on the 50 Hz PAL standard may not be able to display the content.

Sony did not mention what titles would be released under the new program, but confirmed that "a few are already in the process" of being approved. The policy opens the door for critically acclaimed Square Enix titles like Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve to be available in the region for the first time.

Sony is inviting players to comment on the announcement thread with specific requests for titles they'd like to see released, promising to speak to publishers about bringing the most-requested titles to the European PlayStation Store.
