So I thought of a couple of things while watching ACC again:

1. The church of the slums

Why a church? There's no hint of a standardized religion existing, nobody seems to worship any specific deities within the world of FFVII, so how come it's there?

My theory is that it was used more of a community centre, kind of thing. A place for people to go for peace, not necessarily worship. It could just also be symbolic, towards Aerith's character.

2. In ACC the Forgotten Capital (Kadaj's groups 'base')

How on earth did they get from Midgar/Edge all the way to the Forgotten City with all those children in Yazoo's little truck?!
My theory: I haven't got one haha. Maybe they jacked a boat/plane/something lol
Furthermore, Cloud and Vincent got there somehow too.

Lemme know your thoughts, I wanna see what people think :awesome:

I'm currently replaying the game and there is a couple times where Barret says "God". Maybe they do have a religion but they just don't mention it.

And about how kadaj got and the children got to the Forgotten City, I remember reading that since Metor the world has geographically changed. So maybe the river/ocean that was separating the two cities vanished or something.

1. I always thought the significance of the church is the fact that its THE CHURCH you first meet Aerith in in FF7? It is the same church. Though I don't understand there being a church either, considering there's no mention of religion in the game at all.

2. Stumped. I'd say they took a ferry from Junon, but I've not got a clue how they got across to the northern continent from there.

1. Well, FFVII is something of a cultural clusterfuck. There doesn't appear to be any established organized religion outside of Wutai. In the case of Aerith's church, it's the carryover of another time, before Shinra literally sucked the life and soul of everything, and symbolizes mankind's ever increasing distance from 'God' (i.e. the Planet).

2. If Kadaj & co were able to bag three random motorbikes for themselves, I can't see how they'd have trouble finding a ship to the Northern continent. As for Cloud, it's likely the Turks ferried him and Fenrir over there.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have the impression that there was a settlement in the Midgar area long before Shinra came along, so perhaps the church is left over from then. Bearing in mind that the church is a pretty grand structure, nobody in their right mind would build something like that under the plate would they?

This is my thinking. I would imagine the church still provided a refuge to the people until the inevitable corruption and urban decay of the Slums turned it into a relic.

Some good thoughts!

I'm still not convinced with the traveling of Kadaj and his gang, and the children though.
Masamune's point is good, maybe they were just able to create some sort of device. I mean they did make themselves clothes lol.

In two years I doubt much changed geographically, in the sequence with Meteor vs Holy etc I looks as though only Midgar is damaged, the surrounding landscape didn't look like it had much damage.
Still it's a possibility.

Good discussions :awesome:

It could just be that the ice from the continent reached midgars continent at that time of the year. That happens with the arctic and greenland i think. Or it could have happened due to life energy being used up, making it colder

Though i doubt they put much thought into it tbh.

Stupid as it sounds, there must have been bridges of some sort connecting the continents even before the events of the original game, if Crisis Core is anything to go by (which it shouldn't be, but you've all heard me rage at that game enough).

Zack drives a motorcycle from Gongaga to Banora. Isn't that supposed to be on the Mideel continent?

I've got nothing for you on the plot-hole through which Yazoo and the kids drive to the Northern Continent, but I do have some thoughts on the 'church'. It resembles a Christian church, but I think it's designed to be a generic 'place of worship'. Their world is a world that has forgotten a lot of its past and its culture; it's a world focused exclusively on science. No archaeologist has ever explored the temple of the ancients or the forgotten city and tried to decipher their writings. No one can remember the names of the towns that became the slums of Midgar. In this sense, the fact that "Loveless" is fragmentary and its ending lost accords perfectly with the kind of world they have created. They once had a religion, but it was abandoned in the rush to modernise, and now nobody remembers much about it. There's probably a book about it gathering dust in Domino's library.

Oh yeah! That completely slipped my mind.
Hmmm I couldn't imagine massive intercontinental bridges (although they do have them in FFVIII) I think if they did have them it would be a significant enough thing to show at some point lol.
What seems most likely to me is a boat/ship of some kind.

Well, they do show that large bridge in Crisis Core where Zack gets ambushed and his hair eaten. That one apparently ran across a body of water from somewhere between Nibelheim and Cosmo Canyon.

I remember there being a sign on the bridge saying something about Cosmo Canyon being at the next exit, and I think you could even see it in the distance. There's no such bridge on the world map in FFVII itself, though.

@LicoriceAllsorts I like that idea!

Hmm I never noticed that, very interesting. Bridges are a strong possibility then! :D
P.S. I've read all your work (I think all of it), it's brilliant, thanks for putting in the time and effort :desu:

Hmm very interesting, I think I probably assumed the bridge that Zack was ambushed on was just an ordinary highway. So bridges can be a strong possibility!
P.S. I've read all your work (at least all of the FFVII stuff), it's brilliant, thanks for the amount of time and effort you've put into it :awesome:

Been watching TLS Lets Play on your Youtube channel and some of you asked the same question about how Cloud got to the Forgotten City on his bike :awesome:
