So, for those in the vein of fanfiction, you may be aware that National Novel Writing Month is coming up (November), and may be planning something big.

I find it always nice to start a thread, share some snippets, and get general support when you feel your hands begin to swell up and brain pop (two days in of course).

Anyone else planning for this?

Anyone need some information on this?

Fanfiction or actual novel?

I'd love a bit more information
1. Is it a competition or just a time when everyone is encouraged to write?
2. Is it a US thing?
3. I got the impression it was meant to be original fiction - is fanfic also included?
Thanks!

From my understanding, there are some sites that practice a competition - but the actual official NaNoWrMo is just a time when authors are encouraged and all write the 50,000 words together.

Really, the site has you sign up (but it's not needed) and you get pep messages every day, as well as forum space to rant/rave with all the others going through it. Yes, it's more geared towards original, but plenty of authors take time to practice their fanfiction.

NaNoWriMo is the bane of my existance! :P

Seriously, I'll probably be attempting it this year.

First year - 0 words

Second (last) year - 20,000 words

This year? Hopefully 50,000 - though I'll settle for 30,000 - more so than last year. ;)

Anyhow - if you're interested in friending me, and everything from last year has not been lost - I'm CVBidwell.

... Or CVStoudt, I forget - either one.

1. If you make the 50,000 words, you are given a banner to display as you like online.

2. No, it's worldwide; anyone can join in the fun. :)

3. If you feel inclinded towards fanfiction, and you feel that fits the description of creative writing, then go for it!

I won last year, maybe I'll win again this year. But I'm not sure I can manage that with school and work. :x
