I swore there was a thread for this, but I couldn't find it. Either way, this is what the Power Rangers'll look like in the new film. Also, Elizabeth Banks is playing a visually Scorpina-d version of Rita Repulsa.

This has been filming in Vancouver for a while. A lot of friends are like "I'm PA-ing on a movie but I can't tell you what--"
"It's Power Rangers."
"Yeah that's the worst kept secret ever."

^Nah he's the Blue Ranger I believe :monster:

Technically they'd have put the blue guy in the blue suit if they did an Irish language version of the movie :monster:

I'm so ready. I love Power Rangers and this seems pretty inline as far as attitude for them goes.
I see lots of people on reddit and other media are like let down that it isn't seemingly a super serious action movie... I feel like they don't remember Power Rangers at all lol.

I saw other people mad that they are strong out of suit. While I can agree that the Mighty Morphin line up didn't seemingly have "Civilian powers" at first , later seasons of Rangers most certainly did, and even then towards the end of their incredibly long run as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers they were like 1 v 10 taking on the putties out of suit, enemies that once styled on them even when they were in suit.

Heck Tommy even beats Goldar out of suit lol at one point.

I don't like Power Rangers, but must admit that trailer was pretty engaging.

Early on it certainly is campy, the rangers are caricature teens (they are like the best humans alive as far as charities, talent, kindness etc. go lol) and there is a shit ton of Filler episodes in the first run of Morphin (Seriously theres 145 episodes, not inluding the 10 episode Alien Ranger Arc, over many of which they had to cut and reuse footage efficiently from iirc one season of the Japanese Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger series).

But if you can manage to sit through it there is actually some incredibly well done television in there. Especially when they stopped having to rely so much on the Super Sentai footage for action, their in house action choreography was really good.

The Arc that leads up to the White Ranger being created is also some of the best television around.

Additionally with the exception of Power Rangers Turbo the whole "Zordon Era" of Power Rangers actually comes together and heck even full circle really nicely by the end of Power Rangers in Space series. It is admittedly a shitload of episodes to watch but the Zordon Era series are actually incredibly good if you look past some of the sillyness, or even let it grow on you.

Absolutely true. By the time you get to "Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue" (season 8), they've completely left the Zordon era behind (the previous season, "Lost Galaxy," carried a couple of elements over), and the writing had become solid.

The improved writing had actually started before that, but you could readily see the change at that point, when they were no longer depending on the past at all.

I think some combination of nostalgia, excitement at the way the mythos of all the previous seasons had been built upon/came together, and how good the show genuinely got keeps "Power Rangers in Space" (season 6) as my favorite season, but season 9 ("Power Rangers Time Force") is easily the best of the bunch. At least of those I watched. I think I only saw up through "Wild Force" (season 10).

EDIT: Huh. Apparently I also watched season 19 ("Power Rangers Samurai"). Skipped a few there. :monster:

Definitely agree that Time Force is pretty great. For sure at the very least it's the best Post Zordon Rangers series.

It just has so much going for it, for once the leader isn't the Red Ranger, and isn't male. The story is pretty great (though the twist with Frax was a little on the nose I think), Ransik was both an interesting and effective Villain. His motives weren't simply destroy the planet because reasons.

Also worth mentioning is definitely Dino Thunder. It legitimately had a good sub story to tell dealing with duality and coming to terms with yourself as a person both in the case of the White Ranger and Tommy as well, they did a really good job of finding clever ways to deal with JDF's irl schedule while also making it significant to the story on a surface and (for lack of a better word) sub-story? Level. The whole episode where he has to confront past versions of his "Ranger Form" really hammer in the whole duality theme of the series.

And oh yeah Tommys back lol.

I really liked that the Dino Thunder Rangers were kind of toned down and weren't as powerful as some of the previous rangers, but had really great civilian powers to make up for it. The only downside is that when they had their team up episode it was really clear they weren't on the same level as the other team.

The powered up versions of the suits looked sooooooo bad though ><.

I want to say Dino Thunder is my personal favorite but I do think Time Force is way better over all.

SPD is kinda worth checking out. The fight choreography is really legit, it has probably the most "effective" villain in the series IIRC. And it's one of the few times you get to see the "Evil Rangers" actually kick major ass (It's only happened one other time iirc). The twist with the Evil Rangers is really great too.

I stopped watching Power Rangers when the Pink Ranger changed from Kimberly to that other chick (that one pissed me off, because Kimberly was the Pink Ranger I had a crush on in my pre-teen years, when I was warming up to girls). I've been out of the PR loop since then and thought it was just a fad.

Yeah that was tough for kid me to get used to. Even though Jason , Trini and Zack had already left by that point I was just not used to such long main stays like Kimberly taking off.

Boy was I in for a bad surprise when Zeo and Turbo rolled around.
As a kid my interest in the show was really tested in Zeo. Even though the story was actually really great and the Rangers ramping up their powers through the Zeo crystal thing was really awesome. Having so many characters either leave or become a punch line (Rita and Zed) was tough to deal with, I also remember thinking the Machine Empire was really lame when I was a kid. In retrospect I just didn't like their aesthetics or theme very much growing up.

I was done 100% when Turbo rolled around. As a kid nothing killed things more for me than shows that had a child actor mingling with adults or trying to fit in.

On top of that having Divatoxx's crew show up was such a farcry from Rita and Zed, heck even the Machine Empire. We go from a bad ass motherfucker like Zed threatening to blow up the planet with a giant Dragon Zord named Serpentera, to the 3 stooge on a pirate ship. Even more so changing the Rangers powers from awesome things like Dinosaurs, dragons, Ninjas etc. To fucking cars was soooo stupid to me as a kid.

When Tommy dipped out that was pretty much it for me as a kid. I stopped watching completely.

Thankfully I revisited it as an adult. Don't get me wrong Turbo is still garbage, but it makes way for In Space so what can ya do lol.
They had one of the best seasons ever cause the one right before it was legitimately the worst one and they thought they were gonna be canceled so why not go out with a swan song lol.
