Hey guys, I'd like to take myself out of the running. Don't get me wrong I'm really flattered that those who nominated me think I'm up to the task, but I don't think I have what it takes, and I'd rather just try and enjoy TLS as a member. I find it stressful enough when things flare up here and as a mod I'd be obliged to respond to stuff, I'm a sensitive flower.

And yeah, this might seem a little contradictory as I'm already a mod over at Masa's site, but so far there hasn't been anything I've had to deal with, and I can't see it getting too serious over there. Here theres just too much history, and I don't have the 'intestinal fortitude' to deal with it.

I think Wikipedia has a good way of appointing new admins. When someone is nominated by enough people, they have to confirm that they would accept the position and give a statement about what they would do, after which there is a period of time for people to ask them questions, like "how would you handle situation X". Then there is a vote.

I'm not saying that we have to be so formal about it here, but if we go ahead with the voting idea, maybe we could ask the nominees a few things in a Q & A session. Many people have been nominated who I barely know, and I wouldn't really be able to vote either for or against them, as it stands.

Suggestion for mod voting:

I don't think it should be one thread with a list of names. Every real candidate should have their own thread, with a simple yes/no vote. You vote on if you feel this person would make a good mod and you feel comfortable with them having that responsibility, or you vote against that. Not that having more yes than no means you get the position, there would also need to be a significant amount of active members who vote, and then a final decision from staff.

Each thread can then have discussion for what's been suggested, questions and concerns can be voiced about individual candidates, and they can respond accordingly.

This is an awesome idea. While I was reading I was thinking "but what's wrong with just a simple poll?" but your way we actually get in depth feedback about everyone.
