New Thundercats Animation

Nineties, early 2000s.

Hmm, I didn't care too much for nineties animations, but I did like plenty of them. Mid 2000's seemed pretty peak, but I agree with you for the most part.

Durarara has some really shit animation sometimes. Darker than Black I'll give you. But my point is, that kind of quality ain't that common.

For the most part you don't see that much impressive stuff like you used to.

I've only seen a couple episodes of Durarara, I just remember a lot of the animation being pretty sweet. Like that scene in the first episode (I think) with that dude punching the guy out his clothes. More hilarity value than quality, but memorable enough.

I guess I just don't watch enough animation to see all the shit. All of the shows I've watched lately have been fantastically animated (though the stories are sometimes shit.)

It's just a decent bit of gems in a shitpile.

Haha, fair enough.

The premiere episodes pleased me. I watched Thundercats A LOT as a kid, but I can barely stand the series anymore.

Hence why this new take seems more appealing to me, primarily because of the animation and the fleshed out world.

Edit: Approves that Snarf never speaks.

Has anyone else watched it?

How'd you feel about the cats being pretty much racist overlords who have no problem being as oppressive as they accuse other animals of being?

Watched it, and I really enjoyed it. There's an interview with the VA's for Tygra, Lion-O, & Panthro that you guys might appreciate.

I just love the passion these guys exhuberate. I feel safe with them as the voice actors.

At the very least, I think this show will be "good". It may not become an epic, forever memorable series like "The Last Airbender", but I doubt it will suck.

Been amazingly busy. Haven't been able to watch it. Anyone know when the repeat is? I hope I'll have cable at that point.

I just finished watching, and I'm so excited for the next installment. Hopefully I can watch it when it airs.

Like others, I'm really happy about the changes. It isn't a straight up retread at all, and so much went down in 40 or so minutes. I'm also very happy that it isn't basic good vs. evil, and there are elements of reaping what you sew, but it isn't that clear, given Liono's decision to release lizard prisoners.

Cheetarah could use some meat (muscles or whatever), and her standing stance makes me lol (butt out, boobs forward), but otherwise I'm not complaining about character designs or animation, and it doesn't even bother me too much.

As to conversations going on in this thread, I always felt like 90's cartoons weren't that good compared to older counterparts because of the decline in average FPS. In general, I'd say every decade has a fair amount of shit. (Hello Space Ghost--granted, the animation was supposed to suck--and Beetlejuice). I still think Thundercats is ahead of the curve right now, simply because I didn't have any problems with shoddy or rushed scenes. Usually pilots are a bit more polished in that regard, so we'll see.

I was annoyed by Snarf not talking at first because Liono still seemed to understand him, which is just silly, but it ultimately resulted in him just being around less.

Not much else to say. Great start. I don't want to deal with the Berbils, but they're coming. I know it.

You know I'm sure I can find a rip of it and could stream it for those who missed it.

If you can find a rip of it, I'd appreciate being point at it, just in case I don't have reliable cable for the next several days.

whilst i was initially wary of something from my childhood being remade, i sat through the first two episodes and i have to say: I LOVED IT!

it doesn't rip my memories of the old Thundercats apart, it doesn't change needless things and it isn't an exact copy. it's exactly how modern day re-boot/remakes should be done. They've kept enough the same to appeal to me yet changed enough to, imo, make it appeal to an entirely new audience. de-humanising Snarf made me wonder, but it works wonderfully.

all we need now is a modern version of the theme music and i'm a happy bunny.

All Snarf ever really did was nag, bitch, and gripe tbh.

That said, new episode tonight guys!

Ramlak Rising was a bit hit and miss.

i enjoyed seeing new parts of third earth and new races, but it didn't seem to evolve the story much. i guess not every episode is going to be pure epicness.

They're making a new Thunder Cats animation? O: Damn, when did this start? I need to find where this is streaming and watch it. ;o; Especially if it's as good as you folks are making it out to be.

Thundercats returned to being awesome today, with Mum-Ra finally transforming and kicking the entire team's ass. Animation was a bit choppy in a few places, but for the most part it was good.'

My favorite part was easily

"You are much like your father."

"What do you know of my father?!"

"Only that I killed him! Mwahaha!"

I highly enjoyed seeing glimpses of the Thundercats history and the iterations of the main characters' ancestors. Interesting to see the Thundercats allied with Mumm-ra.
Oh, and the MUMM-RA TANK, LOL! That's some good stuff! Makes sense since he may have difficulty flying in broad daylight.

I liked the way it fucking swallowed him.

Indeed, that was amusing.

I don't dislike Mumm-Ra design in this new Thundercats series, but I like his original look better. At least back then his chin didn't look like a Skrull's chin.

I wonder about the extent of Mumm-Ra's weakness against the sun. He couldn't stand the sunrise in Thundera, but he could roam the daylight in and outside the forest. Was he wearing a thicker cloak that day? Did he have suntan lotion on? I'm confused.

Also, WTF Mumm-Ra turned into a crow (or whatever species of birds that one qualifies as). ...I like that!

You guys have no idea how TEARY I'm getting when I listen to the original Thundercats theme... :'( It was (IS!) one of my favourite animation series as a child. It has also left a legacy here in Greece. In a few words, people of all ages LOVE it.

So, when I first saw the remake/reboot, I was "Oi!". :shifty:

However, with the good reviews it took, I want to see it SO badly... Only, you know... Greece. :(

Will go for piracy again. Like GoT. Darn it.

I noticed that no one has uploaded the Swedish version of Mumm-Ra's transformation sequence. :P
I'm planning on doing that myself...eventually.

I've heard that, at the most, only 50-60 episodes of the original series was dubbed into Swedish. Although I only know about 20-25 episodes that were aired over here, so I'm not sure. In any case, I know that they never aired Lion-O's fifth and final trial, where he fights Mumm-Ra without the use of the Sword of Omens.
They aired his fourth trial, then a few unrelated episoded, THEN stopped airing the show and instead started showing Sailor Moon. This was back in 1994-1995, so Sweden was about about 9 years late with the series. The dub is great though.

EDIT: I'm curious, did the Greek version change the Thundercats' names? They didn't copy or make direct translations of many names for the Swedish version. If you translate the Swedish names back into English this is what it turns into:
Panthro became "Panther".
Wily Kat & Kit became "Wild Bell & Bill".
Tygra became "Tiger".
Snarf became "Snore", or well that would be the literal translation of his Swedish name "Snark". So he spent the series saying SNARK, SNARK rather than SNARF.
Slythe became "Slyde" (no retranslation).

Those are the examples that first comes to mind. But at least Mumm-Ra remained Mumm-Ra. =)

*nostalgia overload desu*

Oh Gods, I'll get my DVDs of the old seasons in Greek. *starts digging* Sorry new series, you'll have to wait.

EDIT: I'm curious, did the Greek version change the Thundercats' names?

No, the original names were kept. (So was the original opening - as in, it was the American one). Usually, the names that are used in the Greek version are the ones that are used in the version that is bought. If, for example the Swedish version was bought, these names would be used.

Of course, it was a special case with Thundercats, because in the beginning, the series were in the original English audio with Greek subtitles. And it aired during the NIGHT. At 10. And it was labelled "cartoon for adults". Go figure.

The only time I know that they changed the names was in One Piece.

And Mumm-Ra rules! :joy:

Immediately thought of Walter O Dim when I saw that.
