Obligatory "Sub vs. Dub" thrad

90% of the time, I watch subs, but there are a few anime that I watch dubbed, because I got used to it that way (Outlaw Star/Cowboy Bebop). Then there are ones that I'm torn on like Hellsing, where Alexander Anderson is awesome in English, but Alucard is way better in Japanese. Lastly, there're ones like Ghost in the Shell: SAC where I watched it dubbed with secondary subtitles (translates written text), because there's tons to pay attention to visually, while the character discuss intricate plot details (plus their dubbing rocks). Overall, though I'm always inclined to go with subs over dubs.

I prefer sub and dub on certain circumstances and requirements.

I prefer Dubs, largely because I'm more used to them, BUT I will happily watch Subs if no english dub is available for whatever anime I'm watching. I will admit, there are some Dubs out there that really are terrible, but most for me have been decent and great. I actually have and watched Rosario + Vampire Subbed and I quite enjoyed it, but I also look forward to seeing the Dub Funimation is doing for it currently .

For foreign films, I prefer Subs, mainly cuz it just seems more natural that way with live-action (this also goes for live-action anime adaptations). tho I did watch Le Pacte des Loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) Dubbed in english, which actually wasn't that bad.

It depends for me. Usually dubs unless they are exceptionally bad but even some of the old terrible dubbing for like Sailor Moon has some nostalgic charm for me.

And then there's some anime like YYH that's just far more entertaining in English than in Japanese.

I found Speed Racer to be entertaining in the same level in english.

It depends. Nationality of people depicted, language of origin of the work, quality of the dub in either language, whether or not dubtitling is an option, and how fucking hilarious the dub is.

That said, I mostly watch anime subbed, though most of what I watch isn't dubbed yet anyways.

In general, subs, though it depends. With foreign films, or anything live-action really (I find live-action dubbed to be really awkward), I always go with subs. With anime I usually watch subs, but I'll watch dubs if the quality is good enough - with Cowboy Bebop I've only really watched subs for curiosity's sake since the dub is so well done and fits in with the setting of the show. Besides nationality/setting and such, genre is another thing that factors in for me. Like, it's much harder to get into comedy with subs (even beyond the question of if it translates) since humor is tied to delivery.

It really depends on what I'm watching. For anime and stuff like that, I'm fine with either. I usually prefer what ever I hear first, though. Like, it was if I watch a show dubbed first, I tend to have a hard time adjusting to the subs, and vice versa.

For live action movies, I always prefer to watch the subtitles, though. I normally have subtitles on anyway when I watch something, cause I sometimes have a hard time understanding what the actors are saying.

Subs. This has less to do with good/bad dub work and more to do with the fact that I retain information better if I read it. There are a lot of American movies, Inception would be a good example, where I watch them with subs at least once because I didn't remember what they said, but would remember what I read.

Oh man, subbed. I can't stand most anime dubs. Miyazaki dubs are okay and FLCL was one of the few I actually liked. I had the misfortune seeing Evangelion 1.0 in the theater dubbed, it was awful.
