Octo tries to make a Link costume

aka Octo butchers cosplay using her poor 3 year old as a guinea pig..
aka CBA Cosplay for lazy mothers

I'm being as lazy as possibru here, so most of the costume is gonna be ready made stuff I've altered rather than from scratch.

So I got x 2 cheap dark green cotton tshirts - gonna make tunic out of one and the hat out of the other.

1 long sleeved cotton top in cream/beige

beige leggings

A shitload of brown faux leather to make the belts and pouch and stuff

I've also made a start on a shield, I've cut the shape out of plywood and sanded the edges. Gonna spray metallic grey and then paint the rest in acrylic.

Still have to get:

Boots - seen some cheap on ebay

A sword. I doub't I'll be able to get a sword in proportion with Freybs that looks like the Master Sword - plus the full sized ones are fucking expensive. I've seen a place making traditional wooden swords that I can just paint the right colour though.

Gloves - might skip these altogether, though I probably have enough of that fake leather to make some, it's gonna be fucking fiddly.

I'll probably poast pics at some point, beginning to think I've bitten off more than I can chew here

I made the mistake of getting her to try stuff on to check the length, even though I haven't sewn anything yet. Shes refusing to take it off. She put the 'hat' t shirt on. She looks like a green nun. She wants to sleep in it

When I saw this thread I thought you were going to make a Link costume for yourself and wear it to Mind the Pom, because they've made a point to welcome cosplayers and it would be... ironic, I guess.

Octo sometimes at the Ren Fest they sell little wooden Hylian(sp?) shields and Master Swords. I could always keep an eye out when I go.

^Aw thanks, but I doubt it'd get here in time for her birthday. I don't think shes really that fussed (yet!) if it looks like a proper master sword. She's been making do with a plastic Saracen/pirate sword and seems happy enough.

Maybe a bit much, but how about if she had a small crafted ocarina, one small enough to wear as a necklace, even. Etsy and places like that do 'em in Zelda style.
Or you could get her an actual tiny playable one too and have her an ocarina master in no time

Noisy toys? Thats just what I need But they do look super cute. She hasn't played/seen Ocarina of Time yet. Might find a lets play on youtube for her. I hope the graphics won't be too much of a shock.

I might try and get her a poster or something, I think Link might be her first crush. She has good taste. Mine was Ringo Starr.....the cartoon version from Yellow Submarine

This isn't the best photo, because A) shes in the 'junk room' and b) her tunic is tucked into her pants for some raisin. I'm blaming Mr Octo for that. I tried to take some other pics, but by that point she had shed her hat and was covered in caek. Anyway, she was happy with it. I still want to tweak things, the straps on the back of the shield need reinforcing, and I want to get some velcro to seal the 'adventure pouch'

I'll try and get some better photos once I've washed everything.

If you mean "really" in terms of me sending her an ocarina, I have the means to send her a plastic one, which wouldn't be as noisy & difficult.

If, however, you're talking about me saying it's only a little noisy, then no, not at all
It is most definitely noisy; at least, in unfamiliar hands, coupled with excitement (blasting into it, making high-pitch squeals).
