Official Artwork Question.

Hay guyz! So you all are probably the most intelligent group of kids I have ever come across. And I have scoured the world for this answer I seek, but to no avail. So I thought I'd try here. :3

So in almost all of the AC official artwork, there is a honey comb-esque network of octagons and squares, some of which have seemingly random combinations of letters and numbers. What on earth is it?

My guess was always based in biology; genetics is a huge part of FF7. and those number/letter combinations always remind me of shortened protein names, like Hsp70 is like a giant garbage can that can assemble smaller proteins. But I digress.

Any enlightenment would be vastly appreciated. :3 Thanks!

i have wondered this myself,

I noticed something interesting. If you look on the back of the case of crisis core at the picture of the buster sword you will see the same "pattern". Now look at the fragment that is in front of Angeal's face, I think it says "Ca145". The cover of advent children shows the same fragment on Sephiroth's shoulder armor - "Ca145".

it should also be noted that the D.M.W. in crisis cover uses the exact same pattern. my guess is that the pattern represents memories, which would make sense because memories seems to be a re-occurring theme in final fantasy 7.

then again, i like your genetic theory too

If you could list some of the numbers and thingies, I'm sure that, in combination with Google, we could find an answer.

If Google doesn't provide an answer, there isn't any :monster:.

Ca145 strikes me as being a Calcium Isotope, though I've no clue why it would be.

If it was a Gene sequence, that might make sense, if it's CA not Ca.

I wasn't necessarily thinking Elements or Gene sequences as much as proteins. Again using Hsp70, that looks like the other letter/number combinations in the artwork.

And there are combinations that obviousy aren't elemental in nature.

And for reference, some of the other combinations are:
-Ak42
Ca145
Sv43
+e551
B-043
Ag45
Ke47
S (or maybe B)-013

I ran a fair number of them through the Protein Data Bank -->http://www.pdb.org/pdb/, but sadly to no avail. I'm at a loss. ):

Lessee.

Ak42 is a rifle
Ca145 is an airplane flight
SV43 is a powerboat and a virus of sorts, although its site doesn't work.
+e551 is an 'E-number' for silicium dioxide, "Used as anti-caking agent, to remove protein and yeast in beer and wine production and as anti-foaming agent."
B-043 is a houseboat in Amsterdam
Ag45 is issue 45 of Ag magazine, a magazine for photographic art and whatnot.
Ke47 is a chip product, a "TVS (Transient Transient Voltage Suppressor)".
S-013 is an error message in some computer program or programming language:

S013 - CONFLICTING OR UNSUPPORTED PARAMETERS IN DCB; MEMBER NAME
SPECIFIED IN DD NOT FOUND; NO DIRECTORY ALLOCATION
SUBPARAMETER IN DD.
***IF THE REGISTER 15 RETURN CODE IS AVAILABLE, SUPPLY IT IN THE***
***S013 OPERAND FOR MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION: H ABEND O(S013-RC)**
--POSSIBLE CAUSE--
DCB PARAMETERS CONFLICT, NO BLKSIZE OR NOT VALID MULTIPLE OF LRECL
MISSING OR MISPLACED SYSIN DD CARD
PARTITIONED DATA SET MEMBER NOT FOUND
MERGE - SORTIN01 DOES NOT CONTAIN THE MAXIMUM BLOCKSIZE
JCL - TRIED TO CREATE A PDS WITHOUT ALLOCATING DIRECTORY BLOCKS

B-013 is a security advisory for the Xitami Web Server version 2.5c2.

So yes, it all makes sense, :monster:. The combination of all doesn't show any results though.

My preliminary conclusion is that they're all random, and any link to anything is purely coincidental.

Yeah I'm thinking the honeycomb think is supposed to look like some sort of genetic/memory type thing, but is really random, since I'm sure the SE staff is not comprised of biology majors. :monster:
