I still stick to my guns that it's all in the style of the particular artist; there's similarities in design when it comes to many different artists.[/quote]
If a
professional artist's style is that there's constant similarities in quite a bit of his work, then I say that's lazy. If you're being payed a lot of money for your work you can put in a bit of extra work to differentiate your designs. I don't particularly care if anyone disagrees with me. That's just the way I see it.
I'm not even saying this about Nomura(Designs aren't even his) anymore. I just hate that argument.
EDIT: Fuck it's not a problem just for japanese artists either, I can name at least 5 western comic artists that suffer from sameface syndrome in their art and it drives me fucking crazy. What's worse is they can do better, they just don't try.

Alright, you're intitled to your opinion. > I was not meaning to say you can't feel that way. I'm just saying that the artists' have at least a part of my support due to the fact that I know it's hard. I don't think it's worth getting snappy over, but - I'm kind of snappy right now. That and perhaps I came on a bit strong.
Dacon, I know your an artist. So am I. I know a few of us (perhaps maybe more than a few) are. For myself, still learning different styles and techniques, it's very hard to get what's in my head down on paper - exactly. That's never happened yet.
I guess it also comes down to preference.
Personally, I like Amano's works, as stated; I don't know really why - perhaps because it doesn't follow the art forms I usually see.
Nomura is okay - but I've only seen his works via Final Fantasy VII. His general style with faces and with body configuration is similar throughout all the characters. To me, it seems that the characters have long legs and short torsos.
