The connection is a bit more specific to just the four characters listed. I will note that Squall is an Outlier in two respects, and one of them is that he's from the Playstation Era. The other is related to the actual connection, and how he's slightly different from the rest.

The fourth character is CELES, and it's playable characters with an official Military Leadership Position, Commander of the Red Wings Cecil, General Galuf, General Celes, and Commander Squall.

Besaid Island is the first place you go after crossing an ocean in FFX. Dream Zanarkand's in the middle of the ocean.

Moving on, what's the connection between Chocobo Farm, Balamb Garden, Pinnacle Rocks and Besaid Temple? I think it should be fairly easy.

I agree with Lex on that one but I'm gonna be a bit more specific and say the first time you get a usable summon instead, because technically when Garnet joins the party in FFIX she already has her Eidolons and they can be used but you have to grind like a nutjob to bring her level high enough for her to have enough MP to use them before she gets them extracted and it's extremely difficult to do that until after Pinnacle Rocks.
