This was surprisingly satisfying and I think that some of the elements in it managed to level out the overall hella grimdark type esthetic to the whole thing. Apparently there's a cut on Vimeo that's uncensored compared to this one, but I haven't seen it yet. Really wish Katee Sackhoff would've been the red ranger. It seems not even good fan films can give a female one.

Also the fighting in the film were pretty cool, the story not so much.

Well, all the characters were existing characters from the show. Kimberly was the original pink, Jason the original red, Tommy the Green, etc. I agree a show with a female red/leader would be nice. Wild Force had a nice plot where Pink resented Red for being assumed the leader because he was the newest member of the team, but that got resolved pretty quickly.

That's essentially "At what production budget does fan-fiction become illegal" which should be - none so long as you're not making a profit from it. Hopefully that holds true if it DOES end up getting legal attention.

It becomes illegal as soon as the copyright holder decides to pursue it. Budget or making profit off it doesn't really factor into it.

Hopefully YT doesn't catch this anytime soon and it gets deleted.

I'm normally not a fan of bloody stuff, but goddamn is this brilliant. I'm obsessed.

I've been a huge fan of the original Power Rangers for a long time and this short film has me obsessing over a reboot movie in a style similar to this.

And while I get why the she's cast members (Amy Jo Johnson, Jason David Frank, and Walter Jones - Kim, Tommy, and Zack) aren't entirely thrilled with it being so "adultified", I think it's a great progression of the originals for those of us who grew up with PR from the start.

Talk about Power Rangers though.

Should be pointed out this is meant to be more of a satire on clichee dark and gritty reboots that are applied to properties where it doesn't belong.

"It's funny… I've seen repurposed stuff on the Internet where they take a property that's serious and make it even more so, like a Batman fan film or something like that, or a video game or whatever. I've actually seen stuff like where they've taken ridiculous stuff like Mario Brothers and then tried to make the dark and gritty version, and they obviously play it for laughs.

I think the trick that I really wanted to do with this was to make that dark and gritty version that everybody keeps talking about, but really do it. Really see if I could totally accomplish it with essentially a really incredible incredibly silly property.

Weighing in as a fan since the first episode aired:

That was pretty awesome.

Obviously it won't go any further, nor does that seem to have been the intention, but if it were to, I think the story is a fine point to build from - all but the ending anyway, which doesn't work with the rest of it at all (and, again, probably wasn't meant to). But as a "proof of concept" sort of deal ... fucking awesome.
