Public Enemies

Wow, I've never seen such a waste of so much talent :/ practically everyone who was in this is either a somebody in hollywood, or a good ass actor. yet... this movie sucked. there was no substance to it

Is it really that bad? I mean, it has Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. o_o
Ok, I'm just being a fangirl right now.

I didn't think Public Enemies was that bad, either, but I can see where someone might find it a bit underwhelming.

I mostly liked this film for its setting. Though I obviously never lived through the 30's, I was thoroughly convinced of being in that decade, as well as the gritty realism of the story. It's dark, violent milieu was emphasized as opposed to a more romantic treatment that your typical cops & robbers period film entails.

I also saw what they were trying to show in the film.
They were trying to show that Dillinger and Purvis were two sides of the same coin.
That was interesting.

And the outifts. I LOVE those fedoras (there goes my hat fetish)!

Aside from all of the above, and while the acting wasn't bad, it just doesn't do very well in stirring emotional or intellectual responses. For me, anyway. I thought Bale might be considered the only "waste of talent", and not by his fault by any means. There just wasn't much to his character that we were given compared to Dillinger's. Just a rather flat affect through 90% of his scenes.

But that's just my general ramble after seeing it yesterday, and my opinion is liable to change.
