I voted nomvote cause that's how we were already doing it but on further reading this thread I changed my mind, I'd like my vote change to phase 3. I'm still fine with whatever ends up being chosen.

I mean it seemed pretty clear to me. I just agreed with Fangu in the beginning that the voting round would be superior and didn't see why finishing by 1/1 was such a big deal. I mean the Oscars or one of those things are awarded in January for the prior year, right?

JT, you said that so far, only 10 people have voted? That's a pretty low number considering how many active people we have on the boards. We are a group of lazy people, it is known. I'm nearly 100% sure that more people would cast their votes if all they had to do was click a couple of buttons. I know I'm more inclined to do that than to copy/paste an entire list of categories and tediously type out every name I can think of.

I kind of resent this implication as I made it very clear from the initial post that there would only two phases.

Spoiler: The original post

Phase 1 will simply be determining the categories. We will only be doing a single round of this, no pairing down therefore:

1. Only nominate or back a category you intend to vote on.
2. We all like joke categories, but please indicate as such.
3. A category must have at least 3 backers to be in the final voting.
4. Post your nomination suggestions in the thread below, don't PM them.

Phase 2 will be nomvoting based upon the selected categories. For the sake of voter privacy and/or fraud prevention:

1. All votes will be cast via PM to yours truly.
2. I will not be voting.
3. Winners will be determined by a popular vote.
4. Question for the group: Ties allowed or Tie-breakers?


Here are tentative end dates for each phase. Since there seems to be a rule about having it be a year end thing I am hoping this doesn't seem to restrictive. Let me know below if you have an issue with this.

Phase 1 Ends: 12/20/16
Phase 2 Ends: 01/01/16

The winners will be announced on New Years Day.

If folks cba to read then that doesn't fall to me.

That said the low voter turnout has made me see the merit of phase 3, so I'll go ahead and throw my support behind that.

Made sense to me anyway, feels like previous years the whole process has taken longer than necessary with the polls being open for ages when only 20 odd people are voting anyway.

And we have less than 24 hours for 2 new people to vote in favor of a third phase (edit: or one person on the 2-phase team to defect) or this train wreck ends at midnight PST. (If there is a tie, being the guy running said train wreck I'll opt for a third phase)

And that's more than twice the number of voters we have now. And the polls can be set to close whenever the creator wants. There's no need for them to be open for "ages."

It took me only a few minutes to write up my list of votes for the categories I care about (which, admittedly, is only about half of them). That is already a very low participation threshold, IMO. You can blame laziness but you could also have some sympathy for the person running it who chose to do it this way: The ten minutes you spend voting now could save JT a couple of hours of putting up polls if we were to switch to the other system. It's really not that difficult.

On a personal level I don't much care either way; I'm just not a fan of changing the system part-way through.

But the premise was never that putting up the polls was too much work. The premise was getting it done by January 1st because "we started late." If it was a matter of him not having the time to do it, then that's fine because no one else wanted to run the thing. But at no point was that the stated reason. Indeed he's voted for the second option here.

For the record I would be totally willing to assist in getting the polls up.

To be clear here, my goal with this entire thing was to just run this shit without it become a shit show, but clearly everything I touch falls victim to my scatterbrain, lol.

I have no problem putting up polls if a Phase 3 wins. It is more work, but that's part of the job, that doesn't bother me. That said if people aren't willing to cast their votes now under the system that I explained from the very beginning then I honestly don't care about a low voter turnout.

We can only count votes people are assed to cast. So if the 2 phase system wins out and you didn't get a chance to vote,

I felt it was worthy of a discussion (belated though it may be) because I am new to this and because the decision to use nomvotes was made:

1. Solely by me (who's this git?)
2. In stark contrast to how this has been done in the past.

I answered on that basis, because yes I think a higher turnout would be better. Yes, I can add a single voter to the turnout, but I cannot double it (which THIS poll has already done, by the way). If he had said "I'll do this because no one else is willing but I don't have time to do the whole shebang," then fine, absolutely, do whatever you can it's nice for you to attempt at all. But if you ask my preference, I'm going to assume that he is able and willing to undertake both options and not that to vote for one of them is being selfish and unsympathetic.

I'm not saying I cba to nomvote and therefore am miffed that my vote will not be counted, I don't care about my vote. I was simply saying that more people would vote with the polls and that the awards themselves might lack a just a bit of legitimacy as compared to prior years' with only 10-13 voters. (And nor is this point about me, as I don't believe I'm really in the running for any of the awards that I've noticed.)

Now, after writing all that I know it looks like I SUPER CARE ABOUT THIS. But this was more a response to what Flint said than anything else, lol.

Absolutely! If you are set on that, that will put us at 10 each and as I mentioned earlier tie will go to a 3-phase system.
