Voice of Mickey Mouse for 32 years dies

Wayne Allwine, the actor who voiced Mickey Mouse for more than 30 years, has died. The Walt Disney Co. says Allwine died Monday of complications from diabetes, with Russi Taylor, his wife of 20 years and the voice of Minnie Mouse, by his side. He was 62.
"Wayne dedicated his entire professional life to Disney," chief executive Robert Iger said in a statement Wednesday. "Over the last 32 years, (he) gave so much joy, happiness and comfort to so many around the world by giving voice to our most beloved, iconic character, Mickey Mouse."
A Southern California native, Allwine joined Disney in 1966 when he took a job in the mail room. He went on to work in the sound effects department and began voicing the company's main mouse in 1977.
His falsetto can be heard in 1983's "Mickey's Christmas Carol," 1988's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and at Disney theme parks around the world. He won an Emmy Award in 1986 for his sound editing on the NBC series "Amazing Stories."
Allwine was the third man behind Mickey's voice. The first was Disney himself, then Jimmy MacDonald, who became Allwine's mentor and passed him the reins after voicing the mouse for 30 years.
"He said, 'Just remember kid, you're only filling in for the boss,'" Allwine once recalled. "And that's the way he treated doing Mickey for years and years."
"Mickey's the real star," Allwine continued. "You know you just have to love the little guy while you have him, because he won't be yours forever."
Roy E. Disney, director emeritus for The Walt Disney Co., said Allwine did more than give Mickey a voice. He "gave him a heart and soul as well."
"He did an incredible job of bringing emotion, humor and appeal to the character, and superbly carried on the tradition originated by my Uncle Walt, and later by sound-effects wizard Jimmy Macdonald."
Besides Taylor, Allwine is survived by five children from a previous marriage: Erin, Alison, Peter, Christopher and Joshua.

I didnt know where to put this, so mods move it if you feel like it :)

Just heard from kh2.co.uk that Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse, passed away May 18th at the age of 62 from complications of diabetes.

Not much in the news yet but Wikipdeia has updated their listing with the information of his passing.

What joy Wayne and his wife Russi, the voice of Minnie Mouse, have brought to children of all ages.

like no one else can do a mickey voice.

that's not what I meant dummy.

The fact is everyone is familiar with mickey's voice, and it's going to be next to impossible to find a satisfactory replacement.

I have to agree with Dacon on this, though I'm sure they can find a good replacement that has good potential, still it doesn't mean they will replace his unique aura he gave him. No one will forget what he's done for the voice of Mickey, but let's hope the next person can give life to him just as much as Wayne Allwine, Jimmy McDonald and Walt Disney himself did.

+++++++++

Wayne Allwine...
His voice will surely be missed and even if he has left this world, Mickey Mouse still remains and lives on as one of the greatest, no... THE greatest character known to man, as one who brings joy, laughter and comfort to everyone he has touched. Wayne Allwine may be gone now, but his voice, his life, his soul is forever immortalized in everything he has given to Mickey Mouse and the happy memories he has left will be beautiful memorials for generations to come, just as those before him, Jimmy McDonald and Walt Disney. Wherever he is now, may he smile down upon the next successor to bring life, heart and soul to this timeless character and most beloved source of happiness...

...In nomine et fili i espiritu sancti...

May you forever Rest In Peace,

+ Wayne Allwine +

I'm quiet late but that's sad, very sad. His poor kids and wife . . . :( All I can really say it that I hope he rests in peace. He sure brought a lot of joy to the world.

My day got a whole lot dimmer. Dacon you're right, until they find a great man to step up to the plate and give Mickey a voice once more, the KH games are fucked.

Who changed my thread title?

And yeah, they'll have a hard time finding a replacement.

Who changed my thread title?

Might've been me - I merged another thread with this one. If I did change the thread title, it was unintentional - feel free to (ab)use your mod powers to change it back though, =D.

@topic, I have little affiliation with Disney and/or Mickey Mouse, let alone his voice actor. They showed some old cartoons on TV on numerous occasions, but that's the most experience I have with any of ol' Mick's voice actors, I think. The character's other appearances on TV were pretty much all dubbed in Dutch, or only as a side-role for a Pluto cartoon or something to that effect.
