Reviving Aeris... phew!

Update! I did it!
I went through so much trouble trying to figure out how to get my PSX save file to my PC but thanks to another forum I managed! For those who are curious, I used a PS2 and a PS2 Memory Card which I put my PSX save file in. I downloaded and burnt uLaunch on a DVD disc (CD is good too depending on what format you get it in) and through there I could enter the USB and MC and transfer files.

I used Black Chocobo like I was recommended to do here and all I had to do was tick Aerith in both boxes (which will make her available and available to move, meaning you can also swap Cloud freely!)

Welcome. Looks like your Aerith has some catching up to do, given she's level 32 while Cloud is 99, Tifa is 92, Cait Sith is 88, and the rest of your characters are probably at similar levels.

I wonder if it's possible to hack Tifa or Cid back into being party leader?

This is actually one of my very old save files which I don't use, I didn't want to risk my current run.

I did that and I'm currently experimenting.
I'm in disc one at the moment but I had the chance to remove Cloud out of the party. Yes, only Cid and Tifa besides Cloud have a map character. If Cid, Tifa or Cloud are not present in the party then Cloud's character shows up in the map.

When entering towns etc... not all characters are visible in all locations and areas, however you can use Nanaki, Yuffie, Cait Sith and so on in most places. Tifa and Cid however will appear in probably 95% of the game if they're leader when Cloud should be.

Some problems for instance in Nibelhiem (where I am now) is that when playing as any other charcter you can't interact with everything like the piano, only Cloud can play that. (I'm not sure if Tifa will play it in Disc 2, I think she says ''there is no time for that'')

It's funny how the game works, I used to think that once Cloud is removed the game will jump onto Tifa or Cid or none but actually the character that is swapped with Cloud will become the leader! (excluding the map)

I tried entering Nibelhiem the first time without Cloud. I swapped with Nanaki on the map and once I entered Nibelhiem Nanaki was the leader. A few steps in, the rest of the party came out of Nanaki and they looked north rather then at Nanaki (who should be Cloud wondering how Nibelhiem is not burnt). Cloud's speech pops up but Nanaki doesn't say a thing.

For anyone curious, I posted a video on youtube having Tifa be the leader in disc one passing through Nibelhiem and meeting Vincent, along with Aerith and Yuffie in the team. I had to of course get Cloud back in the party before going in Rocket Town as the game would hang. Enjoy!

Interesting. I feel like the pc version would be easier to mod since you can actually access the files and write your own code .. so to speak. I would make a party of 3 cait siths

haha Cait Sith is amazing! I sure hope they dump the marshmallow in the remake because he appears a bit out of place.

About the pc version.... yes!
It would be definitely easier to do anything really. Thing is, my laptop isn't so fast and I avoid playing games on it. It was pretty cool though to change things on the PS version. I really enjoyed experimenting with the whole thing.

With black chocobo, it's very easy to make 3 Cait Siths btw, If I get a chance I'll make a preview.
