Joseph Gordon-Levitt and “The Dark Knight” screenwriter David S. Goyer have come on board to produce an adaptation of the DC Comics title “The Sandman” at Warner Bros.

Gordon-Levitt, who made his feature directorial debut on “Don Jon,” is also eyeing the project as a possible directing and starring vehicle. Neil Gaiman, who authored the graphic novel series, will exec produce.

Miniseries at best. Not a movie.

I thought Sandman was a villain from Spiderman until I read the article, meh.
I'm growing weary of comic-book-to-film-adaptations.

I want a nice dark Cthulhu movie.:cthulhu:

Also, Wonder Woman is about as likely as a movie starting a black superhero. Actually the latter's probably even more likely. Actually, do any black superheroes exist, and are they actually popular and not the token black?

Yes. =P Black Panther and Storm being probably the most notable examples, though Falcon and the John Stewart Green Lantern have their fans too.

I thought Wonder Woman was already cast for the Batman/Superman movie. If they're copying Marvel, they'll probably do a few Justice League movies, interspersed with solo movies like Wonder Woman.

Came here to post an upset tirade about how a Sandman movie shouldn't exist.

Then was pleasantly surprised that JGL and Neil are involved..

Im not sold on Goyer. The guy cant write and even he has admitted that he was extremely lucky that his minor revisions to TDK were enough to get his name so prominently attached to the film.

If he wasnt attached to this I would have so much more faith in it.

According to his Tumblr page, Neil Gaiman is not involved because DC owns the rights to the stories, but he is really interested on what JGL will make of it.

I see.

Well then Im really skeptical about this. If they axed Goyer I could be ok with JGL and someone else (Nolan bros!? :D) taking a crack at it.

I really just dont think Goyer has anywhere near the finesse required to do Sandman. I dont think very many people can anyway its one of those stories that Hollywood shouldnt make a 2 hour film out of and the fact that Goyer is near it really scares me.

I'd personally skip it entirely if Burton made it :monster:

Not discounting his past work but the man should have called it quits awhile back.

Ah, though what if Burton made the film in puppet animation, without being derivative of 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' or 'Corpse Bride' of course? Perhaps something like this?

But why? I don't get the impulse to attach him to everything with macabre aesthetics.

Maybe because it's the only name which comes to most minds when mentioning these kind of movies, even when there might be other directors (whose names I don't know, sorry).

Not in the slightest. "The Sandman" may be odd at times and often visceral, but it's not quirky, and Burton's style may have dark imagery, but it's not exactly known for the subtlety and reservation that one would associate with "The Sandman."

If only Jim Henson were still around.

Think of the shit he could pull off with modern tech.
