Script translation up on GameFAQs (*massive spoilers, obviously*)

Rereading the earlier posts in this topic, I actually like the line "You're not the one I wish to meet..." Would anyone have a problem if I went with that? It seems less incomplete.

Seriously, though, given there aren't any other references to Rinoa or anything else FFVIII in the game, it seemed just a bit more likely for it to refer to an internal fact.

There is a reference to Rinoa in the latter part of the game, when Squall mentions to Onion Knight that he remembered a promise, and that there's someone waiting for him.

To Onion Knight? The only references to promises with Squall I see in the script are talking with Butz (Butz making him promise to return) and him talking to Ulti, which seem to all refer to the butz promise. Which scene is it in? I might be missing it as I page through the script.

It's a text scene from Shade Impulse, not a voiced one, so if the script only included the full voice scenes it probably won't be there.

Here's an image of the scene:

That would explain it, Hitobito. So, I guess he does go straight from Dissidia to the flower field in the end of VIII. But I still say it's awkward to give only a character a 'romantic' shout out when five of the ten involved have a honey, and especially so when Cecil gets none.

I stand by the Cecil Rule. Cecil no nookie, Nobody nookie.

Hey, guys, I thought I'd let you all know that MinoSpelgud has finished translating all of the text-only dialogue from the Destiny Odysseys and Shade Impulse:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=939394&topic=48025028

He/she has also started on Distant Glory.

I've also been able to find the last of the summon dialogue (from when you find them) for him/her, so we'll have that to look forward to as well.

I think it's to be expected, really. Squall's was the only game officially said to carry the theme of love, and his relationship with Rinoa is really what defines him. For all the other guys, it's an element of who they are, but it's not the primary dramatic angle.

-Cecil: Has that whole redemption/purification thing, as well as his issues with both of his brothers (counting Kain).
-Cloud: Has a massive identity crisis, as well as an inferiority complex. Doesn't help that exactly who his honey happens to be is deliberately left open.
-Zidane: An alien from another planet who learns he was created to cause war. Has to fight his "father," and also has to deal with his own mad brother.
-Tidus: Was a dream of the fayth, had huge issues with his father -- who happened to be the host for Sin.

If you think about it, pretty much the only other issues Squall had to deal with were directly related to Rinoa. Ultimecia was not only also a sorceress just like Rinoa, but she first put Rinoa in a coma, then used her as a tool to cause disaster.

Squall then had to go and free her after she was sealed away, and the only reason Ultimecia even remained a threat at that point is because Squall loved Rinoa too much to let her go. He preferred to take the risk, not just of fighting Ultimecia, but also of allowing her to inititate time compression.

Really, almost all of the drama Squall goes through is in interacting with Rinoa or -- particularly in the second half of the game -- because she's in danger.

Yeah I read, and it was very, very interesting.

But while Rinoa is heavily connected in terms of the events of FFVIII with his girlfriend, you can't deny the deep connection the other characters have with theirs. Tidus and Yuna are almost as tight as Rinoa and Squall, if not more. Yuna ends up spending a good bit of time searching for him, a dream.

And yeah, Cecil ends up marrying Rosa.

I dunno, I kinda agree with Ryushikaze. But maybe there's some more stuff that's left to be found? Maybe a mention of Yuna and Rosa?

Yeah. It certainly removes all doubt as to FFI being in the past for Dissidia.

Of course I'm not denying that there's any less deep a connection between those other guys and their girlfriends/wives, but just pointing out that as far as the way the narratives were constructed, Squall's conflicts and growth are all directly tied to Rinoa.

Tidus is probably second in that regard.

Yeah, and Dissidia is about as true and part of the FF series as any other FF title. I didn't have any doubt about that though.

And see? Chaos was still Garland. I'm thinking the connection Cid of the Lufaine has with Chaos is that his memories and feelings were absorbed into Chaos and thus, Chaos feels and sees those dreams and moments of Cid's life.

I also love how the arrival of each character to Dissidia is tied with what number FF they come from. Like Jecht and Kuja are the newest members to the ranks of Chaos while Garland and Mateus are the oldest. That was rather clever.
