Hey, guys, I thought I'd let you all know that MinoSpelgud has finished translating all of the text-only dialogue from the Destiny Odysseys and Shade Impulse:

He/she has also started on Distant Glory.
I've also been able to find the last of the summon dialogue (from when you find them) for him/her, so we'll have that to look forward to as well.

That would explain it, Hitobito. So, I guess he does go straight from Dissidia to the flower field in the end of VIII. But I still say it's awkward to give only a character a 'romantic' shout out when five of the ten involved have a honey, and especially so when Cecil gets none.[/quote]
I think it's to be expected, really. Squall's was the only game officially said to carry the theme of love, and his relationship with Rinoa is really what defines him. For all the other guys, it's an element of who they are, but it's not the primary dramatic angle.
-Cecil: Has that whole redemption/purification thing, as well as his issues with both of his brothers (counting Kain).
-Cloud: Has a massive identity crisis, as well as an inferiority complex. Doesn't help that exactly who his honey happens to be is deliberately left open.
-Zidane: An alien from another planet who learns he was created to cause war. Has to fight his "father," and also has to deal with his own mad brother.
-Tidus: Was a dream of the fayth, had huge issues with his father -- who happened to be the host for Sin.
If you think about it, pretty much the only other issues Squall had to deal with were directly related to Rinoa. Ultimecia was not only also a sorceress just like Rinoa, but she first put Rinoa in a coma, then used her as a tool to cause disaster.
Squall then had to go and free her after she was sealed away, and the only reason Ultimecia even remained a threat at that point is because Squall loved Rinoa too much to let her go. He preferred to take the risk, not just of fighting Ultimecia, but also of allowing her to inititate time compression.
Really, almost all of the drama Squall goes through is in interacting with Rinoa or -- particularly in the second half of the game -- because she's in danger.
