She just doesn't have the same face type as heather at all and she looks like she's in her late twenties, not her late teens

blergh

How is everyone in the established fanbase ever going to be completely satisfied with a Hollywood videogame adaptation?

oh wait sorry trick question

I heard a siren, its obviously exactly like silent hill.

Aside from fucking around with characters (lol pyramid head wtt), they did an amazing job of making me feel like i was in silent hill and that i may get sword raped any second.
The sound, atmosphere, music. I felt like i was playing a game, i felt like i was in the game. I even slightly cared about the characters.

Is it an amazing movie? Probably not.
Is it a good video game movie? Yeah, almost as good as MK1.(only reason mk1 beats it is because its exactly like the game.).

I think they made an earnest attempt at making you feel like you were in the games universe. Theres no need to make Point for Point like the game, they did a good job.

Sorry, Aki, I'm throwing my money in with Gabe on this one. I really enjoyed the Silent Hill movie. I genuinely think it was a pretty good movie overall and simply outstanding by the standard set by most video game movies.

I heard a siren, its obviously exactly like silent hill.
there's also this game called siren that uses the exact same noise and it was made by team silent

im not going to go around and say THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE SILENT HILL I LOVE IT just because of a fucking noise.

Aside from fucking around with characters (lol pyramid head wtt), they did an amazing job of making me feel like i was in silent hill and that i may get sword raped any second.
this is not the feeling i get when i play silent hill games. silent hill is supposed to be a fucking resort town, thus you find brochures in 2 and 3 which mention this and a residential area in 1. it's not supposed to be 'SCARY CRAZY CHRISTIANS TOOK OVER ABANDONED MINING TOWN, KILL LITTLE RAPED GIRLS' town. it's supposed to be 'this town is sort of fucked up but you wouldn't know that if you didn't look at it'.

and did they really have to rape alessa, i mean the bullying alone should have been enough for the audience to know that she had a hard time, jfc

ending sequence inspired by legend of the overfiend really guys, really

music was the exact fucking same as any silent hill game you've played because they used what yamaoka made for the original games.

this still isn't going to convince me silent hill has random hallways of nurse tits bouncing around trolling for people to kill.

Is it an amazing movie? Probably not.
Is it a good video game movie? Yeah, almost as good as MK1.(only reason mk1 beats it is because its exactly like the game.).
so it's a good video game movie. that's like pointing at a pile of shit and saying 'look at that turd, that is the nicest looking turd i have ever seen'. you still aren't going to convince me to stare at the thing and praise its shit-like qualities.

I think they made an earnest attempt at making you feel like you were in the games universe. Theres no need to make Point for Point like the game, they did a good job.
lolno

they tried in some bits and in other bits they just decided to throw pyramid head and tits in there and hope for the best

Aki makes a good point. It's a good film, but an absolutely terrible Silent Hill film.

hell, even session 9 does a better job at being a silent hill film and it has nothing to do with silent hill.

if the film was named Town or something else that had nothing to do with silent hill, it probably would have left me with less expectation of what should have happened than the film actually did. fact was they didn't do a good job and this was how we got shit like Homecoming.

I agree with both sides. I think it was a good movie if you can try and *not* think about the games while you're watching it. They could have done a lot worse with it, so I was surprised. And I do enjoy watching it. However, it wasn't a scary movie and that really bothered me. It wasn't nearly as twisted as it could have been, so I am hoping with this new film they really try for that part. The only scary moment in the movie for me, was when she had to get the key out of the janitor's mouth (and when he came to life that was pretty like OMG OMG for me). But the rest of it... meh.

Aki mentioned before that they paid too much attention to the cult shit, and not enough on what SH really was and how it used to be. The way the movie made it, it's like just... no. xD I really like the idea of Silent Hill being different looking for each character/person that visits it. Like for Angela, it was always on fire. James, Heather, Harry, and Henry, all had VERY different versions of the SH world to explore but the movie didn't really touch on that at all. :c It's like they just tried to cram all the ideas into one, when they could have created a dark and twisted world for the main character instead of borrowing things from the already existing plot. (Cybil, Lisa, Alessa, etc) If they were going to do that, then they should have just made a movie based on the first game instead of borrowing what they wanted and throwing Pyramid Head in just 'cause he's popular with the fans.

To be honest, I thought the violence was too much for Silent Hill. Unless I'm forgetting stuff about the games, they showed mostly the aftermath of violence rather than the act in progress. Maybe that was for technical ease or something, but still. Even if the gore was left on the floor or bodies strapped to fences afterwards, it still wasn't shown.

Whereas the film.

Had people getting their skin ripped off right there on screen.

This would be my biggest gripe too. For me, Silent Hill got most enjoyable whenever the cult stuff was far, far, far away from anything that was happening at the time. The soul crushing isolation faced by the main characters in a big old empty town and the psychological horror that can inflict on them, is to me, a much more scary, intriguing prospect than the machinations of an evil cult.

Yeah, rly. Like the dude who obviously blew his brains out in SH2's apartments, or finding Harry's dead body in SH3. I think the most violence we actually got to see happen was Alessa lightening bolting her mom in SH1 and that...was not gory in the least.

also, i generally like the cult when it doesn't seem like a BIGHUGE thing in the town. In SH1 it was clear that Kaufmann was not part of the cult and just manipulated people. Same with Vincent in SH3. The only devout people were really Claudia and Dahlia in those two games. Even in SH4 the cult seems a bit bigger but it's not like 'oh yeah everyone in Silent Hill is part of the cult' or anything.

I think it got a bit more graphic in SH: Homecoming.

But like, srsly, that doesn't count.

Movie needed more of the claustrophobic terror Silent hill is good at.

You know, the feeling of you being alone in a creepy place with poor visibility while monsters creep about in the dark shrieking arcane obscenities at you in distorted voices.

Thus why i liked the scene in the schoolyard with the fences and things.
If that were me in that scene irl, i'd be dead lol i'd run face first into fence after fence. The fences would probably kill me before any monster or figment of my imagination could get a chance too.

@aki, im not trying to convince you its a good movie :monster: i think were both fairly grounded in our expectations for movies. For instance :

If i go see a nolan film, i expect a certain level of depth in all elements (not just plot). So i set the bar high, and nolan somehow, being the god among men he is always surpasses said bar.

I go see a uwe boll movie (lol i never have but what ever), i know im going to see crap.

I see a stalone movie and i know atleast 15 people are going to blow up in the first twenty minutes, will have a shit plot but over all i probably wont be "to" bored. And that was my expectation when i saw the latest Rocky movie a few years ago ( i was hoping he would falcon punch people to death, but thats another story).

I go see a video game movie (thats not a toilet Boll production), and i honestly only expect to recognize select names, ect. We all know the feeling.

I went to see silent hill, expectations incredibly low.
And low and behold i hear familiar sounds , i feel a similar vibe. And theres an over all creepy tone. Sure they pulled some sounds directly from Konamis ass, but thats alot more then pretty much every other video game movie has ever even attempted to do (yet again i must say aside from MK1).

They did not get all the elements right (fan service pyramid head to name the biggest). But they atleast made an earnest attempt at making a movie that fans of the series wouldnt be 100% let down with like ever other movie based on a game.

Does there efforts make the movie somehow for some reason million times better then it really was?

No not at all, but im not going to lie and say i didnt leave the theater pleasantly surprised after i saw Silent Hill.

edit:
Also, siren tidbit in my first post was not meant to be serious lol.

I get that sometimes, videos have odd outfits that might be tricky to reproduce in real life.

But seriously. Could they have not make it look closer to this?

At least make her shirt orange and her trousers dark green.
