Because I like playing it on consoles? :monster: it's not a shooter, you know.

(Actually I have ME 3 on PC too, was on sale at one point, for the multiplayer. Not a great multiplayer btw, I prefer FPSorz)

Sorry if this is a really stupid question:

I pretty much have Wrex and Garrus in my squad at all times, for no other reason than I likes 'em.

But is this like in FFVII where people not in your squad won't get experience points?

And if so, does it matter? Am I going to need the others to be leveled up at some point?

No, others will level up equally; it just means that when you ever decide to switch people in your squad, you'll have to assign them ability points and shit (I just hit auto because I don't give a fuck / don't see how it would matter because it doesn't)

Strictly speaking unused characters in FF7 do get experience, just at a much slower rate.

But, Yop is correct about Mass Effect :monster:

After ME1, ME2 and ME3 are just straight up cover shooters bro

I've played on both - in terms of how Shepard moves it feels better with a controller (particularly when sprinting and having to turn, it's very awks with a keyboard) and in terms of using powers that also feels better mapped to a controller, although I mapped those to additional mouse buttons like I do every quick access power thingy in a KBAM game.

Shooting things is obviously better with a mouse, that's just one of those things that's never going to change. Everything else though, from movement in general, to the dialogue wheel - hell, even interacting with objects; definitely better on a controller. There are games where this is not true - Dragon Age: Origins for example is very much a PC game, the entire thing is awkward as hell with a controller. But more recent games (ME3 (lol "recent", it's 4 years old)) and Inquisition are more comfortable with controllers.

The PC versions of all Mass Effect games do not have controller support, which is nuts (mods exist to do it, but it should be there from the goddamn beginning Bioware >_>).

Problem with that is that the PC version don't implement the wheel UI; that's a whole other can of worms when they're testing that.

Besides, KBAM users would probably crush controller users in multiplayer :awesome:

How is it a whole other can of worms to add a switchable UI based on whether the user wants to use controller or KBAM, especially considering the wheel UI already exists and is usable on console versions? The vast majority of PC games I've played offer exactly this.

iirc there's testing requirements an' shit, esp. when it comes to multiple forms of input and UI that many companies can't be bothered with when it comes to the extra amount of time and effort required.

"The vast majority of PC games" is a real stretch given the overall reputation of the quality of PC ports. Quite a few ports allow for controller binding alongside keyboard binding, much fewer use drastically different UI overlays like those between Mass Effect's PC versions and their console counterparts.

I mean obviously more testing would be required, but we're talking about Bioware here. It's not like they're some hokey indie dev team that doesn't have the resources to implement a secondary UI when said UI already exists and is functional on PC-like hardware.

I legitimately cannot think of one PC game that is the size of Mass Effect (in terms of popularity/ brand recognition) that doesn't have some form of controller support. Even if they didn't see the need to implement the console UI for controllers, the PC version of 3 doesn't even allow you to map controller buttons in the keybind menu. That's ridiculous Satsu. Especially when you consider fans have modded the console UI with controller support after release.

You specified "exactly" switchable UI rather than nebulous controller support, if we want to go into semantics :monster: I already said that sure there's plenty of regular controller support.

Mind you, Call of Duty used to be extraordinarily poor with its controller support on PC, even as one of the most profitable franchises in videogames :wacky: tl;dr some developers just can't be arsed because of the busywork it provides.
