So what IS Square Enix doing nowadays?

It seems as nowadays SE is too good for one shot classics (Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story) and doesn't give a shit about their franchises that aren't Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts (Chrono series, SaGa series, etc).

But with Final Fantasy XIII, their biggest project released, and a lot of the manpower freed up to hypothetically do other stuff, what ARE they doing? Besides FF XIV and the FFXIII side games, what's new for SE nowadays?

I think I liked it better when Square Enix (or rather, Square as it was back then) released a myriad of different, diverse projects at one time to fit everyone's tastes, rather than pour all of their resources into one shot, "we're a big fukken deal" projects once in a blue moon that everyone may or may not hate. But we'll see!

Q: Final Fantasy Versus XIII is your current primary project. How is it coming along?

A: Developement is progressing smoothly, but starting with E3 and through winter, there are a number of titles I am involved in that will be announced. And of course, the company as a whole has many upcoming projects, so we'll take it one step at a time. We do have plans to officially showcase the title at a certain point.

Before you get your hopes up, this could be anything. Square-Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto is potentially teasing fans today through Twitter… again. This time though, is slightly more interesting, only because he mentions E3.
The full tweet translated as follows: “This E3, because director Nomura is accompanying me, I think we can deliver information that will [cause] an impact.”
Now, both developers are currently working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but they’ve also worked together on the Kingdom Hearts series. With a new Kingdom Hearts title set to be revealed at E3, perhaps that is what Hashimoto is referring to. Or maybe we’ll be seeing our first look at the long awaited reveal of something else.
