The Full FFVII Experience - Where Are You?

FFVII: It came out the year I was born, so I was exposed to it pretty early from watching my brother play it and my dad re-play it (one of my earliest memories was of Cloud jumping on that train to escape Shinra guards, actually!) I picked it up a few times myself at different times (once when I was seven, once when I was nine) until I FINALLY sat down and played it after HS graduation and finished the damn thing.

AC: My dad bought it when it came out and I watched it I don't even know how many times. I was pretty young at the time and I didn't care about the story. I'm not even sure I knew who Zack was :P

ACC: My obsession with FF7 dropped off sometime during middle school, so I didn't even know ACC was a thing until fairly recently. Having actually played through VII at that point, watching it had a far greater impact than AC did, and I really appreciated all the changes.

BC: I know very little about it.

CC: I've watched streams of it and know the whole story. I own it and will eventually play it, but for some reason I hate playing games on the PSP. I'll probably end up emulating it on my PC. Zack <3

DoC: I have it and have watched my brother play through it. I'd like to play through it myself eventually.

FF VII: Playing it through to completion for around the 20th time currently. Never 100 percented the game but have beaten all the major optional bosses like Ruby and Emerald.

AC/ACC: Seen it's original version around 10 times, only seen ACC once as I never felt the need to re purchase the film until recently.

DoC: Beaten twice, haven't played in year though.

BC: Read the gunshot romance translations but that's it.

CC: Played to completion 3 times.

Novellas: Never read.

FF VII: Seems like I'm from the old generation :P I got the game in the first week of the release, I was 17 at the time. I've beaten it 4-5 times on the PS1 (with one 100% completion), and then my PS1 broke down and I lost one of the discs... so I didn't get to replay it until the PSP/PS3 re-release (2008?). Finished it twice. Then discovered the modding communities and started to work on my own remake, before Square's announcement was made. Currently going through the community playthrough with a heavily modded version (graphical mods only, nothing related to gameplay).

AC/ACC: Watched AC 3 times, watched ACC twice.

BC: Read through translated scripts, checked information about it.

CC: My girlfriend got me a PSP just so that I could play it :P Finished the game 3 times, but never 100% completion.

DoC: Watched Youtube walkthoughs, but have no intention of playing it.

Also, I actually once went through a FF7 marathon: first played through CC, then FF VII, then watch ACC. Neat stuff!

FF7 came out a few years before I was born so my parents offered a lot of resistance towards me and my older brother when we wanted to get a playstation and FF7 as our first console and game. This was around the time my parents deemed DBZ too violent for any of us to watch even though our cousins of the same age were allowed to watch it without issues. They also had pretty much every console ever so we ended up watching and borrowing a bunch of their games . I doubt I would've had the chance to properly play it the whole way through even if my parents let us have it since I never got the chance to finish any of the N64 games either. By then, I took on the habit of ignoring any game I couldn't get so I'd be less discouraged about it. I still got the gist of the plot though.

DoC didn't really interest me from a gameplay aspect since shooters aren't really my thing. However, I looked up the cutscenes at one point. I chose to avoid seeing the gameplay as the sight of Vincent jumping in that game makes me cringe.

I didn't have a PSP to play CC on until I talked one of my cousins into giving me his old one he was planning on throwing out when he replaced it with a newer one. I had Kingdom Hearts BBS in mind when I did that and had a hard time getting it to work. By the time it occured to me I could get CC, my parents had this "you're too old to play games" attitude and wouldn't really get me any outside my birthdays so I had to let go of that too. I'm not really sure where my PSP is now since my stuff's been moved around a bunch of times and my younger brother has a habit of trying to mess up my stuff when he's mad at me.

I looked BC up on the wiki once or twice. I dug up an LP of it on youtube the other year but only sat through the first 5 chapters before getting bored since the actual game was less interesting than the wiki's summary of it, which seemed to cover all the important stuff.

At least I got to watch ACC a couple times without issue, though I avoided it for a while because I only heard it brought up when people were complaining about it. It really isn't as bad as they made it seem.

I've also read OtWTAS and I'll be damned if someone tries to stop me from getting the FF7 remake.

Don't know why your parents are stopping you from playing any games until a certain age. My parents(or my mother, mostly) always made sure I didn't watch stuff or play stuff that was too violent until I was older, but that never stopped me from playing any games like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, or watching SM or CCS or even PKM.

No one can be too old to play video games even in their 20's. Heck, my sister who is two years older than me still plays games even as she an employee, and so does her husand who is also my brother in law, and my mother plays IOS games too which she never done in her childhood or teenaged years.

So if you wanna play the remake when it comes out, then go right ahead. You have the chance to play games when you want to, no matter how old you are. The only thing that might keep you busy is work or school work, but there's still free time to play games when you want to, right?

I'm not being mean or horrible or anything, and you can get mad at me if you want, because I don't mind, but you have the right do things that you want to now, even doing things that are for teenagers or kids. No parent out there can fully keep their children or control them forever...at least that's what I believe anyway, I could be wrong.

Just trying to help.

That last sentence was more an expression than my parents literally trying to stop me from buying the game. I mean they'd probably get me something else as a birthday gift but I've kept my interests enough to myself that they know better than to pry by now. The odd thing is that we started out all sharing my dad's old grey gameboy with tetris and super mario before we each got a pokemon game. My mom also helped us map our the lost woods at one point so they just stopped caring about games at some point. I somehow got them to watch all of ATLA once and they seemed to pay enough attention to actually comment on some of it but afterwards they just pretended they only cared because I did.

Sorry, just trying to help. Hmm...maybe they don't want you to be a Final Fantasy fan?(just my guess, and I'm not accussing your mum and dad or anything. Every parent is different.).

My sister and I started out with....uh, have you ever heard of a game of a boy going on a journey searching for humburgers for super nintendo? Then we got into Pokemon, and then we started out with Final Fantasy X, then I started on FFVII before Kingdom Hearts.

What's ATLA by the way? I don't think I've heard of it.

Their issues with the playstation was that it'd been out a few years and probably wouldn't last much longer. I think they gave a similar reason for skipping the gamecube. I remember my older brother mentioning either wall market of the T rating as why they wouldn't let us get the game even if we talked them into getting the console. ATLA is Avatar the Last Airbender. It's a wonderful show and I really wish my parents appreciated it more.

It would've made more sense to get the Playstation when it was out for a few because it's a lot cheaper, and then get it before it sold out and wasn't made anymore. Why skip gamecube? There were plenty of games that were not rated T, even though it probably Wall Market wouldn't be as bad as some people would think.

Do you have a PS4 yet at least?

Ah, right. Avatar the Last Airbender(there are two kinds of Avatar, one which my mum likes and well, she calls it "Pocahontus-Can't spell it, I have such terrible spelling-with blue people" lol). I've seen a little bit of it, but that doesn't strike me as anything bad.

No, last console we had was the Wii, which I'm pretty sure doesn't work anymore. Half my games kept crashing so it's been a while since I played any of them. My parents really didn't get the whole gaming thing, which makes my older brother getting rid of all the good N64 games before I was done with them even worse. I have a lot of stuff to save up for.

Funny enough, Wii was my last console too, and yet, mine still works. Maybe your games had bugs in it or something? It can happen with some copies of games all around the world.

I hope you'll get a PS4 soon, even though with Nomura as director of the remake of FFVII, it could take up another decade like FFXV. Don't know why they haven't made the original game's director, well, director of the remake and mixing things up a little.

Well last I checked, Twilight Princess freezes every now and then, Mario Party 8 freezes as soon as you exit the title screen and Super Smash bros brawl freezes if you view specific trophies or cutscenes, making subspace emissary unplayable and impeding my ability to enjoy any of my achievements. With 3 games having major issues, I doubt it's not the console that's the problem. My cousins apparently had a similar problem as well.

Hmm, sounds to me like the discs of those games are faulty. Did you check to see if there were any damages on them or anything? If it was the console that was having issues, it might've been accidently been bumped or something.

My Wii never froze...at least I don't think it has, and I brought it cheap too as it has been out for a while.

My FFVII experience:

FFVII: Played it over at a friend's house on their PS and then later replayed it on my PSP.
AC/ACC: Watched AC many times and ACC probably less but still a lot.
BC: Watched it many many years ago on YouTube.
CC: Played through on my PSP a couple times before my mom took away my PSP and then conveniently "lost" it because she thought I was playing it too much.
DoC: Never played but maybe one day I'll watch a walkthrough on YouTube or something just because.

I've read most canon related material, but it's been YEARS.

That's kinda similiar to what I did with my experience with FFVII experience. Actually, what started me off with Final Fantasy VII was Kingdom Hearts(it also got me back into loving Disney), then I watched FFVII AC, before playing the first game(Never got around to finish it, but I watched the walkthrough on Youtube), and I'll admit it, I haven't even played DOC or CC either, but I've seen both on Youtube as well(I know, it sounds like I'm not much of a gamer, but I could get either games at the time)

Wish I could've played Before Crisis, but I only could watch it on Youtube, but there were some events of the game that was missing I'll never get the chance to see-The WEAPON battle, Episode of Reno and Episode of Legend.

Still wish they remade Before Crisis, but that's never gonna happen. *Sobs*

I've also seen ACC as well, and I've read the other materials as well, such as the "On the Way to A Smile" Novellas. Still waiting for the completion of the translated version of "Literal Biography-FFVII-TURKS: The Kids Are Alright" as it's one of my favorites.
