I hated the Jungle Book movie as a kid because I'd read the stories and loved them so much, I hated to see them getting messed around. If a live action version remained true to the original I might watch it, otherwise I'll give it a wide berth.

I love the Disney version now on its own merits, but the characters in it and story it tells bear practically no resemblance to Kipling's stories, which are much more exciting (and brutal).

Fun fact: Walt Disney told the people working on Jungle Book not to read the book and just do their own story.

Well, looking at the the final outcome they really didn't read the book at all. Although, from what I heard originally the film was going to be closer to the book but they then decided to just make it a lighter story. Bill Peet actually came up with the darker draft and quit when they changed the tone.

Wow, how many versions does this make now? I think this is like, what, the fourth version in a row. I've seen three so far, and I have the Disney animated 1960's or 70's version.

Still looking forward to this. I'm actually not familiar with the story. Haven't watched the cartoon one since I was a kid, and I think it bored me so I don't think I watched it all anyway. This looks entertaining though.

I watched the disney's version and that anime where Shere Khan had a hyena for a sidekick and Mowgli befriends a red panda. Looking forward to this especially the final fight between Shere Khan and Baloo.

I still have the Disney version of the Jungle Book, and Shere Khan's defeat always makes me laugh so hard because his expression is always priceless. Actually, I still laugh at many of the Disney films from my childhood to this day.

I also know that there was a Disney TV show with characters from the Disney film with same names placed in here with new characters...can't remember what it was called, but yeah.

I've also briefly seen the original 1930's version film which didn't appeal to me as much, and then the 1990's or something version, again, done by Disney, but again, wasn't as good.

The next thing Disney will probably do, as I was told by my sister who found this out last year, is a live action remake of Mulan.

Seriously, what ever happened to stylistic effects... those are way easier to do on animated movies (even CGI ones) then live action ones. And those really effect the tone of the work. The fact that over half the time live action remakes of animated films shoot for Darker And Edgier doesn't help.

There's also a British version to release in 2017 with Andy Serkis directing... hrmm...

I dunno, I don't think that the whole live action influx with recent Disney movies isn't so bad. Animation has gone to pieces, with most recent movies being done digitally/CGI and it doesn't have the same charm to it. But there's a whole new generation of kids that this would touch, plus originals who saw them ages ago and would bring back the nostalgia.
