The Last Batman film and The New Superman film

So yeah, Nolan plans to end Batman with the third film. And plans to bring his talents to make supes...Super. Bats can have a potential for 2 more sequels before it's game over though but I see hope for Supes. Although to have Nolan leave Batman after number 3 and possibly ending it altogether is... a little sad for me. When I feel it could live up to Batman 4 or 5 before game over.

It was announced a while back that Nolan was supervising the Superman films bub.

I'll agree, the current Bats-series has been going rather well. Sad that we can't have a reprise of Ledger's Glasgow-Smiling variation of everyone's favorite lunatic clown, but the current series managed to make every character they've displayed, hero/villain/supporting cast alike, actually interest me quite a lot. It also makes me sad because, with certain exceptions for particular stories, I find Big Blue rather boring. His array of powers is just far too perfected for their to be much tension without a deux ex machina weakness in the form of Kryptonite, Red Solar Radiation, or Magic (only one of which tends to turn up in film versions of Supes' adventures).

Anyway, I'd say more Delta, but this creepy little girl with a big ass needle just told me "Big Sister doesn't want you playing with Mr. Bubbles" and I am compelled to run like hell now. :monster:

I know... I wanted more from the Nolan verse, to see it end so abruptly is extremely a let down after the climactic high of tdk. And ever since my ma has had a huge crush on Stupidman, I can't seem to take the buffoon seriously as a hero compared to Batman.

Big Sister? lololololol Bring it, I've killed countless Big Sisters with my eyes closed. I highly doubt one more would quench my Big Sister bloodlust. Drill drill drill.

That's all well and good for you, you're a Big Daddy. I'm a Tonberry dude, I doubt Chef's Knife works well on Big Sisters and She might kill me to death before I can nail her with my namesake :monster:

But more seriously and on topic, I've just never been a huge fan of Superman, largely for the reasons I gave earlier. His being such a boyscout also annoys me somewhat now and then. But, handled properly Superman stories can be entertaining. I'm an unashamed fan of the DCAU, and say for instance in the Justice League/Unlimited series they knew how to stack the odds up to make it believable that Kal-El would actually have difficulty resolving a given situation. Plus I love how they kept details like Batman carrying around a chunk of Kryptonite in his utility belt, just in case.

So, I have hope that Nolan can offer us a decent Superman story, as he did Bats before him. Fingers crossed.

Nolan is just supervising, he's not going to be deciding all that gets done.

DCAU took a shitload from the comics, right down to Batman's paranoia. Hell there's been a lot of good Superman stories even though I hate him, that could make great films.

Yeah, Christopher Nolan is just supervising like I'm Batman said. Like what Peter Jackson is to Niel Blomkamp with District 9. I believe Chris' brother will be directing I think.

There are tons of Batman villains that haven't been portrayed in film yet. How hard could it be to write a story to include one of them for an on going series of batman. I am disappointed that it seems the Riddler is going to be a villain in the next film, if today's rumour is correct =P. Whenever someone eventually reboots Batman again, they should do him as a middle-aged man, when some interesting and tragic stories occur. They should at least explore his insanity.

As well you should while wearing that avatar and name Dacon, you hit the nail on the head with regards to the DCAU. Its one of the big reasons I love it, its direct translation of many of the characters most important characteristics and the way in which the stories play out. Batman's paranoia, Hawkgirl's sublimation of her emotions with a big honking mace, etc. Plus props to them for using John Stewart as the Green Lantern for a change.

And I loved how they managed to toss in some humor in unexpected places. You expect the Flash to be funny and zany, that's part of his natural appeal. But Superman promising to pay for Luger's shiny new city he had wrecked beating the stuffing out o poor Captain Marvel, then thinking twice and looking over at Bats (being as he's the poor sap who has to pay for everything) and getting that really pissy nod in return? That's awesome. Plus they managed to sneak in a reference to Martian Manhunter's love of Oreos in the Christmas episode. And of course, Mark Hamil is the best Joker ever. EVER. Not to take anything away from Heath Ledger, he was awesome with his variation on the character, but Mark Hamil will always be Joker #1 for me. Shit, I'm all nostalgic now, I may disappear for a while to watch old Batman TAS and Justice League episodes.

More on topic, didn't we have the Riddler on in the last Batman film franchise? Must we do that again so soon? Batman Begins gave me high hopes, with Rahs Al Ghul (even if he was Liam Nieson, it worked out ok for me) and Scarecrow, villains that hadn't been in the Tim Burton-originated series. And of course TDK had the Joker, you cannot have a Batman franchise without the clown showing up, it'd just be wrong to leave him out. And TDK gave us a Two-Face so vastly superior to Tommy Lee Jones' version that it gave me nerdgasms. But really, we're back to the Riddler? I mean, so long as he's not Jim Carrey this time and is semi-well written it could have potential I guess, Riddler is a good character if somewhat limited. But if we have to see a villain we've already seen in a prior Batman movie, I'd like to see Bane again. Bane done right, brilliant, self-taught in nearly any subject you can name while he was in prison, tactically sound, broke Batman's fucking BACK Bane. Of everything I hated about Batman and Robin, and I hated a lot in that movie, Bane pissed me off the most. Gimme a corrected version of Bane over the Riddler any day.

I wouldn't mind an appearance by Killer Croc either, poor sap gets so neglected. Or Clock King, going back to Batman TAS, Clock King was fucking awesome. They may not be headline villain material for a full length motion picture, but seriously. Joker, Two-Face, and Riddler get all the love.

Also, if its gonna be the last one in the present series, I say we connect it firmly to the opening salvo that was Batman Begins: Tahlia Al Ghul ftw!

I'd love to see Bane done proper, but Bane and Killer Croc are too "unrealistic" for Nolan's films so it won't happen.

Also, yes I love everything about the DCAU except Batman beyond and static. They even managed to sneak in references to Batman and Wondy's romance :monster:

Croc did appear in "Gotham Knight," though. Which was fucking awesome, by the way. See it if you haven't already.

I love everything about it including "Batman Beyond" and "Static Shock." Hell, I even liked "The Zeta Project."

Honestly, I think the DCAU is my most beloved continuity for DC.

As for the Nolanverse, I love it as well, and though I think it could probably remain good beyond a third film, we've all seen how these things tend to turn out. "Spider-Man 3" was alright (still had its problems), but "X-Men: The Last Stand"? Well, they told you with the title that they didn't expect anyone to want to see anything else after that.

To be frank, I'm glad to see Nolan have the balls to end it at three, and also to see that he recognizes that something good should end while it's good. If you ever have to start wracking your brain to come up with something else just because you "have to make another one," then it's time to quit.

Gotham Knight apparently doesn't mesh with Nolan's continuity so he ignored it. I don't even think he had anything to do with it. Lol I saw GK before it was released to the general public :awesome:

I hate both Terry Mcginnus and Static, and the whole retarded Beyond plotline.

There's a shitload to draw from when it comes to Batman material. Nolan just doesn't want to use it, so he's only holding himself back.

Tbh, there should be no brainwracking when you have almost 70 years of stories and characters to draw inspiration from.

Tbh, Nolan's refusal to use certain characters and themes, are one of the main reasons he's gonna wind up dropping from the films. He's NOT going to keep making these, and DC isn't going to stop making Batman films.

He didn't, but it was the same setting, so I figured I'd mention it.

I think he just has a vision of what his Batman continuity should be like and he's going to follow that vision strictly. And I respect that a lot.

When you see "Batman Begins" and TDK you have no doubt that Nolan has a vision of who and what Batman is. As a film geek, a Batman geek, and a fan of adaptations, I love that.

Then you have a movie like "Watchmen," where I kept saying to the screen, "Goddammit, Zack, when are you going to show me your vision of 'Watchmen'?"

They should just say 'fuck you 'Man' (insert any 'man there), and invent something new for a change. Like. Penisman, raeping children for GREAT JUSTICE.

Yes, but he arbitrarily decides what's acceptable as realistic and what isn't. A lot of the tech in his films is bunk. There's a lot of articles out there about how some of the stuff just isn't possible. But a gangster with bad skin, and a short fat mob boss with a big nose are too unrealistic?

I dunno. A lot of the times it seems like he can't decide what he wants Batman to be. Is he a detective? A ninja? A wannabe cop? Nolan never seems to want to settle on one of these things instead of having him be ALL of them.
