There're some cool viral videos that I'll post later if no one else gets to them. I have a few friends who've read the book and they're all STOKED AS HELL for this.

Only thing I'm worried about is Ridley Scott. It's been awhile since a GOOD movie came out from him. There's been ok, or entertaining ones, but he's fallen off dramatically since his earlier work.

Probably not a film I'd see at the cinema, but on TV.

"I'm going to science the shit out of this."

Not sure if face-palming or amused.

Amused, it reminds me of KSP and shit, :monster:. I liked the trailer, it's a nice mix of action and shit without being too grimdark depressing or overly dramatic / MURCA. Although that last one might yet happen. Nowhere near Armageddon-levels of MURCA though, :monster:

Unless Damon is a farmer on earth, in which case, never mind :monster:

Some trailers give away far too much of the film's story, don't you think? I mean, at the very same time that Watney is saying "on a planet where nothing grows", there is literally a close-up shot of something growing. All but one of the conflicts presented in the trailer were resolved, the final, unresolved conflict being "will they rescue him", and since this is a big-budget Hollywood film, I'm going to go ahead and guess that they do.

Also, this:

Face-palming here. It gives me the impression that this is going to be one of those "science is cool" films, by which I mean it'll be an action film with science references rather than an actual film about science. Kinda like the "I fucking love science" Facebook page, but with Matt Damon.

This was pretty much what I was thinking while watching the trailer. I feel like I could just go see it, fastforward all the way to the end and I probably wouldn't have missed anything that important.

Also the beginning about people having a basic instinct to help each other felt really exaggerated and naive. I mean people do help each other for sure but mostly because we empathise with others not because it's a basic instinct.

"I'm going to science the shit out of this!"

*Makes rows in the soil, ground cracks and Matt Damon falls into a series of catacombs, running away from a colony of xenomorphs for the rest of the movie*

Will his friends save him in time? best picture

Has anyone 'round here read the book that can share thoughts about it & the trailer?

I heard All Along the Watchtower in the trailer. This could only mean one thing, Ridley Scott is a Cylon. We should've known after Blade Runner.

I want to see it, but probably not on opening weekend, I don't like busy cinemas and what they're showing has been kinda shit lately, so I'm sure it'll be very busy, :monster:
