I saw this on GFaqs, and my thought was 'this is news'?

I recall test 0 confirmation videos existing long long ago. Still nifty news, though.

Is that in the actual game? Only you're just got Cait Sith with no name, and Cloud being called 'Ex-SOLDIER' still.

Evidently I didn't, but I only skipped through the video anyway :monster:

That GameFAQ link doesn't work now, but on the video's comment:

And just in case you don't misunderstand anything, this is an actual random battle in the game. You don't need a Gameshark to access it. I have no idea if the developers left it there on purpose or if they simply forgot to take it out. Since it's not there in any later versions of the game, my bet is they simply forgot.

That makes it sound like you can just walk up and get into this battle without doing anything special.

You can, in the JP version. It's about a 1 in 10 encounter, I think? He simply debugged his way to the proper location to speed himself up.

All that is fun and dandy, but it still doesn't answer my question: What is this thingy 0 whatnotmabob all about? I have no clue what you lot are on about - it just looks like a random battle like any other to me, :monster:.

There're several dummied monsters in the game, and usually they can be found only with cheat device(Pro Action Replay, Game Shark, Codebreaker, ...). However, what makes 'Test 0' subject of rumor, is the fact that you can fight against this test monster without help of such cheat device, though it's in original Japanese version only.

I heard about this and the Red Man - what I read was it was test battles for the programmers, et al. that were forgotten about or for some odd reason left in. Seems like the FFVII game crew had a sense of humor. It continues to this day, as I found out about a glitch in Dirge of Cerberus.

Considering how many invisible barriers are in this game elsewhere, it's funny how here you can just hop onto a Gargoyle and fly around. o.o

It's been a while, but I don't remember many invisible barriers.

But my Vincent jumped like a geriatric, so maybe I just couldn't reach them :monster:

I remember lots of invisible barriers. I kept trying to jump over railings onto stairways for a shortcut, but there would be a barrier.

Still, i didn't mind the game all that much. But I'm glad i got all of the capsules.

If those railings required double jumping, then that's why I didn't notice. Japanese version, only one jump :monster:

I remember reading about the Test 0 thing in the "Ultimate Unofficial FF7 Guide", back when FF7 first came out. They had a big disclaimer saying basically, "We played an early version of the game, so there's no guarantee you can even find this in the American Version." Plus they said something about how it has so many HP that they had to leave their game with the attack button taped down overnight to defeat it, but then it gives some obnoxiously huge amount of AP/EXP.

That guide was the best. Better than the Brady Games one. I lived by the Unofficial's map to the Glacier area, and their Materia combo tips weren't bad, either.
