So I was poking through the early material files and found that under Nanaki's section, it talks about some Saints and there's a foot note that says they were important in the early version. I believe the one is named Gandalf.

As I understand the rest of these sections have not been translated?

This is the area I'm most interested in (what cold have been) and looking at this and thinking about the saint idea... was it abandoned or just reworked and what exactly was it?

I notice we have Genesis, Angeal, and Sephiroth that are really the highlight of what would have been the "Thaumaturge" force... SOLDIER... as I understand it. Though they weren't planned way back then in this form. Was Sephiroth one of the Saints? (it'd prove my theory that the three top Thaumaturges/SOLDIER were the Saints, Sephiroth being one... later in the compilation they developed Genesis and Angeal into those roles... the name Gandalf being used already in FFX).

Do you have anything to add or share?

I can't post links... but the name was Gandof. He was a summoner before the events of the game.

FFwikia (as much as you all love that site) has an article that isn't terrible about him.

Red XIII was originally supposed to be called Blue XIII from what I remember of the article. In the finished game he was one of a kind, but from what I understand, he was supposed to have been one of three or four (the others being Cobalt, Indigo and Gandalf). The three saints in this case refers to either Blue(Red), Cobalt and Indigo or Cobalt Indigo and Gandalf

I'm pretty sure all of the Early Material Files have been translated actually, meaning that's all there is to it.

Remember, these are unused parts of the FFVII script. Since they're unused and were scrapped, of course they wouldn't be fully developed or explained. They're just elements that got scrapped.
