The waterfall crystal projector thingy in the Forgotten City

Has anyone actually wondered what the hell this is?

What exactly is it for? I mean, the main characters learn about what happened to the white materia from the crystal and stuff.

But it seems so random. Why does the crystal show them this particular detail? I mean, in the crystal's manual, does it read something like "ACTIVATE IN CASE YOU NEED TO ADVANCE PLOT" or something like that?
Does it find things that are lost? Do Cetra use it when they lose the keys for their cars?
Or is it some sort of oracle that shows people that what they really need to know, whatever it may be? I mean...what does it do? How? And why?

I mean, what did the Cetra usually use it for?

And who was the asshole that dumped the key in a fucking cave in the ocean? How did that person even get there?

Discuss. :P

Stag nights.

A puritan who didn't want them having stag knights any more.

The waterfall is probably a database of Cetra knowledge, with the key dumped in the cave to keep the access safe, much like with the Temple. I'd not be surprised if there was a Cetra trick to call it up to the capitol when they needed it.

The trick would be to send their wives to get it along with the beer they dumped besides the key to keep it cool.

Yeah, I often thought that the Cetra had a pretty darn cool civilization to have that good of reception and VCR/DVR abilities. Who knows, due to its location (kind of looks like an auditorium), maybe it was the Cetra's version of CNN? lol.

Plus, it's kind of weird that they have it cued up to when Aeris dies. One of the ghosts in the Ancient Capitol must've been replaying it to Benny Hill music or adding sound effects or something! Geesh. :P
