TLS Awards 2012 Discussion Thread

I think it's best to keep pictures in the appropriate voting threads, so people can see what they're voting for :monster:.

Also, the threads should probably go into a section not publicly accessible, i.e. only logged in users under the 'registered users' group (i.e. not spambots either)

Makes sense. I'll get around to fixing the permissions later today.

Ok, the content in this section should now be invisible to everyone who is not at least a registered user. I have also finally made the existence of the general forums apparent to people who are not logged in: they can see that the forums exist, but not any of the content therein. People browsing the forum as guests for the first time might not pay much attention and end up thinking we're not that big if the forum skeleton isn't viewable. By making the forum outline visible, people will now know that we have a general discussion section with 150,000+ posts, a club section with nearly 20,000 posts, etc.

The Awards 2012 section is not included in the list of forums for which we want threads to show up on the Front Page. Do we want it to stay that way, or do we want to include them?

And I agree with him. So yeah, I'm in favour of keeping thread content hidden (although it wasn't originally). Are they showing up in the Top 10 Posts thing? Because I don't think guests can view that so I'm not sure how much it matters. The titles of the threads and the identities of the last posters would show up for people with less than 10 posts but they still wouldn't be able to actually read the threads.

I'm fine with visible thread titles and the like, rlyeh; I'm just not comfortable with stalkers like Username and even moar dubious people (such as employers and relatives :awesome: ) being able to see personal stuff people poast in such sections.

Plus the chance of n00dz is higher around this time of year compared to most of the year, :monster:.

Oops, I forgot to respond to this I see now. They don't show up at all right now. Threads in General Discussion do, however, because that section is very active and if they weren't included, the forum would look kinda dead :P What I did was make it so that for threads you need to be logged in to see, you are redirected to a "middle page", stating that you must be logged in to view this thread. If the Awards thread were to show up on the list, they would do something similar.

To see an example, go to the Front Page and click on a thread from General Discussion. The link to Ruins your day, for instance, looks something like this: http://thelifestream.net/welcome-to-our-forums/?forumthread=9651

But yeah I think they're better off not showing up on that list.

That would be fairly cool. I'm not exactly sure how one would go about programming that particular message into the software, though. I don't think vB gives you a variable for the thread title in its "You must be logged in to view this page" message. I could edit the message though :monster:

The stuff with the page I linked to is implemented already. We did it this way because poking around in vB's session stuff seemed like pain X) So instead I wrote something that adds the clicked threadID into the URL, which then can be fetched by the WordPress template used for that particular page (welcome-to-our-forums). Basically the page doesn't know if a user is logged in or not - which would be ideal, but since vB is bleh etc this seemed like a nice ad hoc solution.

As it is right now, the first part of the message ("You've shown interest in the thread x") is hard coded in the template php page, but the rest can be edited by anyone with Editor rights in WordPress.

A day late but as promised:

Not the best quality but taking pictures of one's ass is kind of difficult.

I guess is appropriate that I changed my username back to Chloe Frazer today. :monster:

Not that I'm complaining about how you guys have blocked stuff, but I do remember that one of the reasons I finally went and joined the forums was because of all the other non-FFVII stuff you guys were talking about...

Should I post this in another thread?

IMO I think we shouldn't close the general section too, but the members pic and this thread is okay with me being hidden.

Someone has told me that I have a nice ass, but I'd need their permission to post it on here. They'd probably have to take the photos, too :P

Although, what's the point, I haven't been nominated...
