Ah, that's my problem; it doesn't give me an option beside the featured folder! :wacky: Erm lemme try real quick to make sure..... Yeah, when I click the folder to submit it to, it only shows 'featured'. Is there a way to change that? XD

This hasn't died by the way. I figure it's a good filler project for when there's nothing going on, but there's been the fanworks contest and the music event.

Just saying....it'll be back when there's some down time. :desucait:

I’m thinking of doing something different with the DA group here…

I like the concept of having a group discussion using visual resources from artists on DA. On the other hand, I was thinking about the negative connotations of having a community vote. It is (or could be considered) at the very least moderately disparaging for us as a community to vote for our favorite piece out of a selected few when at least one of said pieces will be the least favored.

It was my intention to draw attention to fanart, but I feel like there’s been a (honestly unintentional and not well-thought out) consequence here that entails having an obviously disfavored piece of art. I want to invite the artists to view our discussions, see their work being displayed on the forums and feel comfortable with the experience all the same. That being said, I feel that in having a community vote with an obviously least favored piece isn’t a very inviting atmosphere, especially for the artist whose work isn’t “winning”.

So, I have a new idea that we can all brainstorm together. It entails having a community discussion about a particular aspect of the FF series and displaying (not choosing favorites) some different works from the fandom. I can make a list of characters, locations, events, NPCs, etc. from the FF series and draw random topic each week, scratching them off as we go so as not to discuss the same topic twice.
An example of how it would work:

+ I draw a random subject from our list, (let’s just say the subject matter happens to be Rinoa Heartilly).
+ I create a thrad revealing this week’s discussion topic and I says to you all “okay guise, this week’s topic is Rinoa. Please share your favorite Rinoa fanworks, your feelings about the character, some memories or stories from your childhood pertaining to Rinoa, etc.”
+ As the discussion progresses I can continually add shared content to the first post and create a little compilation of the community’s contributions for “favorite Rinoa things”.
+ Next week I’ll draw another random subject and we’ll carry on.

Of course, this would be a general all-across the web fanworks discussion not specifically geared towards DA, there would be no requirement share artwork that is only found on DA, and I’d encourage people to share youtube videos, artwork, fanfics, music, cosplays and any other works related to the subject matter at hand.

I would like to reach out to the artists whose work is displayed if at all possible (i.e. those found on DA and youtube) and let them know that they’re being discussed and/or appreciated. If it is possible to reach out to the artists, I’ll do it. :D

TLDR: I think this idea encourages a lot more personal involvement from everyone here. :properhug: If no one reads this or puts forth any opinions/objections, I’ll probably just move forward with the idea to see how it works.

It gets my thumbs up! Sounds like a lot of fun. I just love fan art, and dedicating attention to one subject at a time can really do it justice and involve so many awesome artists.

I think it sounds like a lovely idea, Howl. I'm all for it! It has a much more positive focus. :) Plus it'll be fun focusing on specific subjects like that (I'm looking forward to the location parts). Anything you need help with let me know and I'll do it!

Olololol Flare, since you loooove locations so much, you could help me to make a list of discussable locations in the series. :wacky: I can get started on a character list and hopefully we’ll have something to get started with by the weekend at the very least.

Ofc there’s no need to try to cover everything because we can continue to expand our topic list as we think of new things. I’ll edit the first post in this thread later on with our ever-growing list of discussion topics. :monster:

EDIT: And probably change the thread title too. :D

Aye aye, captain! :monster:
So you thinking of just locations in the main FF number entries right now? I know that's going to be a lot so far. So, I'll just start listing all the locales starting from XIII on down (because it's funner that way). That is if my power doesn't go out, it's rainy and windy outside right now and me lights are blinking. :wacky:

^lolol No it hasn't yet. :awesome: One point it almost seemed like it was going to, but thankfully nope. :D My internet went out for a little while when there was a downpour a few hours ago, but it's back now.

I was writing a list with a pen and paper though, then I said screw it and used the computer and saved every minute. :D I've been using the FF Wiki to help with the names, but not every location is something big, so there's a few in every game so far that I'm not sure if it's worth making a thread for it.
Liiiike for instance Pinnacle Rock from IX; it only has a few different screens that you walk on and except for some story moments, it doesn't have any big importance or notability. Do you think I should still include those? Or like the Chocobo forest/lagoon/island places?

I guess...it doesn't hurt to include small places too because of storyline schtuff. If the discussion is moving too slow for a particular topic we can always scrap it and move along to the next thing. :hohum:

EDIT: I love the chocobo forests/lagoons, etc. ^_^

^Okay, sounds good to me! I'm planning on grouping some places together though, such as in FFVII with Mt. Nibel and Nibelheim, I'm thinking of making them one location as a whole since they're the same area. Is that fine, or do you want me to separate them? (Nibelheim includes Shinra Manor as well).
Sorry for all these questions. :monster:

^I trust you to do it in a way that works. I don't think we're going to run out of subject matter anytime soon so grouping things together ought to be just fine.

I don't think we'll ever run out of subject matter. :wacky:
Your trust is well-placed, I'll make something good out of this list! :D
