Firstly, I agree about DBZ-Kai, it's a horrible re-edit of the original DBZ and it was honestly a chopped up mess, plus filler is not always a bad thing. Personally I think it added to the story more and was funny . And I hate that it was ended so abruptly after the Cell Saga, being the Buu Saga is my favorite arc (tho I digress, Cell VS Gohan was out of the freakin world o.o).

Yes, because at least it had the same voice actors, original music that wasn't fucking plagarized, wasn't censored for violence/BS moral guardians and finally didn't abruptly end after the Cell games, thanks to people that apparently would rather watch Toriko..than DBZ Kai.

Kai failed hard, especially here in the states. I doesn't adapt the manga better in the least. It's chopped up, and just with shittier music.

Kai was pretty shit but booo I liked the music

Toonami favored- in its run- Action shows over psychological ones- Big O straddling the line well- but this is the AS toonami, so y'never know how the lineup perspective might change.

I'm hoping for some Black Lagoon, in addition to what I mentioned above.

Most of the voice acting changes were for the better, especially Frieza. Guy was actually threatening in Kai. The old vocie actors also turne din a far better preformance than the first time around. Dialogue was much improved as well, and closer to the manga, at least in the dub.

And it got rid of all the goddamn filler. Seriously, some filler is good, most is not.

And dude, the music is Kai was awesome. Seriously, listen to this.

Not sure what censoring you're talking about either, unless you're reffering to the Nicktoons version? Cause ya know, DBZ got similiar edits when it ran on tv. Thats what DVD sets are for. Those edits aren't in the dvd sets.

Near as I can tell the only legitamte strike you've made against Kai is that it ends before Buu. Admittedly thats a big problem, but what Kai did do it did well.

This how I basically feel. I really disliked the filler of the older series. And they trimmed the unnecessary charging/heavy breathing during the fights.

But is that music from Kenji Yamamoto's musical scores or Shunsuke Kikuchi's music? Because apparently the former plagiarized other musicians songs or something so his scores got replaced with Kikuchi's on the later DVD/Blu-Rays sets.

I know some of the music in Kai was plagiarized, but I'm fairly sure that piece I posted was not one of the offenders.

While most of Faulconer's music is better than most of Kai's music, there are definete exceptions, and none of Kai's music is shit tier. Not even remotely.

I try not to color my perceptions with my childhood, imo. I was largely unhappy with the way things turned out for Kai - a lot of the filler removal and dialogue changes grated hard and some decisions really made me scratch my head - but honestly the music was the least of the show's problems.

Plagiarism aside, I never liked comparing the music in terms of better or worse; some of it is so stylistically different that it would be literally comparing a symphonic piece with some purely synth-rock jam, similar to how the original Japanese cuts of the original series worked in comparison to the English dub. I have no doubt that Faulconer made DBZ his thing, but DBZ Kai clearly isn't his thing and although the series is imo worse off without that it, I don't think it's entirely fair to dismiss the replacement pieces.

They have a charm of their own that people probably miss because of their connection to watching the original series during their childhood.

Actually I think there are three versions, an edited one for Nicktoons like you said, another edited one for The CW Toonzai (which is the one with the blue Mr. Popo I believe), and then the uncut/unedited DVD/Blu-Ray version.

And most of the main cast voice actors for the DBZ Kai dub are the same as the ones from the regular DBZ Funimation dub.
