Top 10 FF7 Music - Round 1

Im planning on making a top 10 video for our top 10 music from FF7, so lets start with the first 10 tracks. The top 3 from this list will go through to the final.

Please leave comments, and I'll try to work them into our top10 video

I went for Shinra Corporation. It was a decision between that and Anxious Heart.

It might not be the nicest piece of music on the list, but I'd say it achieves its goal better than any other, giving the listener an immediate impression of what Shinra is like as a company - strong, intimidating, sinister. It works just as well the first time you are introduced to Shinra as it does at the end of disc two, when you make your grand return to Midgar. It just gives a sense that something important is happening, or about to happen if you can't stop it...

I had to go with Bombing Mission. I remember playing VII for the first time, what, four years ago(ish?), and being thrown into this game I had heard so much about without having any RPG experience before, this song is what really got me pumped up and sold me right from the start.

I can't wait for the rest of the polls, though, there are so many good songs in this game!

Buuuuut decided to go with Anxious Heart. The mix of minor and major chords gives it this awesome mix of despair/hope and dreams/reality which I felt suited the slums really well.

Damn...this is incredibly difficult, and there are only 10 choices.... I have recently really gained a ton of appreciation for Anxious Heart. Honestly I think it was ever since I heard it in ACComplete. I never thought much about the track, but I gave it more after how happy I was to hear it edited into that scene. Ever since I've really loved it, but does it get my vote?

Bombing Mission is excellent, Shinra, part of me really wants to go for Barret's theme because it and he are both underrated. But I think I'm gonna have to go with Lurking in the Darkness. I loved that song as a kid and boy does it ever sound like it's title. It is absolutely perfect for sneaking around and I've liked it for years.

Was hard for me to choose between Tifa's theme and Anxious Heart... but I went with Tifa's Theme in the end. It's just too sweet to pass by. ;w;

Fuuu, too many good ones here. I think I'm going to go with Mako Reactor, just because it is so appropriately atmopspheric for its setting.

I actually think it would be easier to have a poll of the shittest FFVII tunes which would be....... uh.... Yuffies theme, Gold Saucer theme and One Winged Angel, because they're all so fucking obnoxious

that's why this is so hard, almost every single one of these is super atmospheric

eep. I love Anxious Hearts and Tifa's Theme. I also really like Shinra's song, and the battle theme. Bombing Mission and Barret's Theme also good choices. gah! It's such a difficult decision, but in the end I can't betray Tifa's Theme. It's been one of my favorites for so long.

I don't hate it hate it. I just don't think its that good. Doesn't give me goosebumps or anything. Plus it probably has something to do with how bored I am of Sephiroth as a character.

Well theres no doubt that it's overexposed, but I'd agree its not a valid reason to hate it alone. If its any consolation, I'm not wild about Carmina Burana or Ride of the Valkiries either.

Put it this way, its not even in my top ten FF music tracks, it isn't on my mp3 player and if it was I'd skip it every time

Thats the problem with Yuffies theme and Gold Saucer - even though they're irritating as hell they fit their setting well.... I would even consider the Desert prison annoying, because its so dry and miserable...but its a fucking desert prison innit?

I guess there isn't a single track that isn't well suited to its purpose is there?

And by that logic I guess OWA works because its the over the top theme tune for an over the top egomaniac

Only song I bothered learning on keyboard on this list was Anxious Heart. This was because - as one may have already assumed - I liked the song .

I ended up voting for Fighting. I really like all of these songs, but Fighting is my favorite because it sounds like there's a sense of urgency, but it's also a pretty fun sounding song.

It is also one of the few songs that make running on the treadmill bearable for me.

Listening to this song EVERY morning on my school walk thinking about how many punishments Squenix deserves for not giving me the damn remake instead of the Fabula-I-don´t-care-about-boring-characters-Crystallis games.Who wants to join me on a bombing mission to Japan?

Mako Reactor all the way here, though Anxious Heart and Shinra Theme come close. For me, there's something truly iconic about it. Maybe it comes from all those days spent as a frustrated 7 year old having no idea how to progress past the first reactor and having this tune repeatedly drilled into me. Or maybe it was because, as I grew up, I realised how much of an impression this piece of music left on the entire rest of the game. It does a tremendous job of setting the scene for you almost immediately after you boot up the disc in a way that the sometimes awkward dialogue and always awkward character models might have trouble with.

I can't decide which reason I like more. Either way, it gets my vote.

Also, for the record, I loathe OWA. It is far too overblown and melodramatic in comparison to the rest of the soundtrack. I probably could have let it slide if it wasn't for the horredous overexposure it has gotten over the past decade. Seriously, yuck.

This is super hard. I love Prelude, Bombing Mission, Anxious Heart and Barret's Theme. I was initially going to vote for Prelude because I love it so damn much, but as it isn't purely a VII song, I feel that it's a bit wrong to vote for it. I'm actually going for Bombing Mission. It's a great start of the game, you're sorta thrown right into the action. I never got sick of listening to it when I was playing.
