Tseng's official age

According to SquareEnix in their remake ultimania, Tseng is 30 years old. But when he visits Aerith as a child at Elmyra's house he's already grown up and working for the Turks. Aerith looks about 5 in the flashback and she's apparently 22 now. How does that work????

Cloud joined the military at 14, Tseng seems to have joined the Turks at a similar age.

I don't think Turk is necessarily a promotion from the standard Shinra military. It's its own thing.

set before what? It's after the scene in Elmyra's flashback. Aerith is a teenager in BC, so Tseng's in his 20s.

Elmyra says she adopted Aerith 15 years ago, so Aerith is at least 7 during that flashback.

I suppose I just wouldn't be too impressed if MI6 started using 15 year old kids as spies and field agents

If I remember correctly, Cissnei was adopted out of an orphanage straight into the Turks, at an even younger age than Tseng (I believe it was mentioned somewhere that she is the very youngest recruit?). And Elena was still wearing a high school uniform in "Before Crisis," two months before FFVII began.

Correct on Cissnei, didn't know Elena's appearance in Before Crisis was post-timeskip though, she's much younger then I thought then. I was figuring like 19 in FFVII or something.

I guessed it was just because Tseng has one of the higher quality "main character" models, whereas Elymra does not. Therefore it was easier to slap some different hair on Elmyra and call it a day, while altering Tseng would have taken a more effort.

If my memory serves me this was basically my nephew when he was seven. He was a tiny kid for his age. He looked like he wasn't old enough to be on his T-ball team because he didn't look the same age as his teammates.

For your peace of mind, just imagine him as being the same as Elijah Wood in that he ages reeeeaaaally slowly. And not because he has the ring. Some guys are just slow to age.
