Righty, so far, so good, I managed to back up the database and start the importer scripts, which seem to go well. I'm just going to state here that I'll start the ociffial move in 24 hours if no major problems occur, meaning that the forums will be down from then until I finish the upgrade or until I open it up again.

It wouldn't be too difficult to keep a copy of the 'old' forums running btw, in fact, I'll just do that as a contingency plan.

Just a question though, you lot wouldn't mind if the layout of the new forum wouldn't be awesome right away, right? I dunno how long it'll take me (or if I'll get the chance) to make the layout for the new forums, so it might not be done by the time I do the transfer.

But yar, if everything goes smoothly, the move shouldn't take more than an hour. In practice though, nothing goes smoothly, so I won't make any guarantees in that area, . The frontpage will remain up for the duration of the move, I'll keep a move progress post updated as I move the site.

So, expect forum downtime around this time tomorrow, or, in the major US timezones, later morning / early afternoon.

Also, woot. For some reason I don't see the ' Site, Forums, Staff & Projects' section on the forum's homepage / index, but I'll look into that.

And here's a preview for the TLS-ized style, that went easier than I expected, . I've got rid of the table headers on the main forum view and merged the 'threads' and 'posts' table into one column, but other than that, it's all CSS updates. Oh, and I upped the width to 1024 pixels, for great justice and screen real estate. I could still reduce the width of the section column in favor of the last post column, what do you gaiz think?

Thanks for that. It's a little bit of a rocky transition, but it's looking good now, and hopefully it'll make things >9000x easier from here on out.

Is the password reset working properly for all our other members who'll be trying to get back on the new forums?

Edit: Damn, I'm not used to this amount of space - all vB forums I've been to so far were all 800 pixels wide, .

postbit template needs moar aka field amongst other stuffs. if you want to temp-admin me so I can set up shit on here to look moar like the SMF was, I'd be glad to help out

also quote tags and actual quotation marks from old posts don't work, I guess because vB handles quoting differently in the former case and because they've all been converted to html in the latter. I'll try to come up with an algorithm to sort that out, though probably you could do it better, .

There's a 'cleaner.php' script available that can convert such stuffs properly, just link to some bad posts and I'll fixx it. Also, I'll add the AKA field poasthaste, .

Muh, it would be possible to create a variant on this one with a width of 800 pixels if the demand is enough. But don't expect it to be supported very well, .

there are a heaping shitload of posts that contain fucked up quote tags/quote marks. actually less than/greater than signs are fucked up as well. it'd be best just to auto-run it on the whole board, if that's possible.

Also we can't use custom titles. Ideally the rank system from the old board should be brought over as well.

Nope. Basically I think the option to allow custom avatars for default usergroup is completely bollocksed. Can't add custom titles or images to my signature either. And I'm not getting any errors - the option to edit my avatar is completely absent, the only thing I see when I go to the Edit Avatar screen is "Your Current Avatar".
