In Japanese, W is used as shorthand for 'double'. Obviously it doesn't work in English where it doesn't have that meaning, but that's FFVII English for you
You know its funny, W doesn't have that meaning in English, and I knew nothing of Japanese back then, but I never questioned the W. I did just accept that as meaning 'double'. Weird.
And what do you mean glitch or deliberate? You mean the name or the actual W-item glitch? There's no way that was deliberate.
it's long bothered me that "Double-U" is actually a double-V (which is what it's called in Spanish - at least, likely in the other romance languages as well)
