I'm going to put it out there.... I'm hanging for this movie!!!

I used to play Vanilla WOW and got the hell out of that bottomless pit... but there has always been a piece of me that craves that sweet, sweet WOW.... I tried to fill that gap in my life with Guild Wars 2 for a while... it was fun... but just wasn't the same...

This film is going to be pretty sweet!!

I am really excited to see the movie, but I have been playing WoW since 2008 so I ma pretty invested in the game at this point. I've heard it is getting terrible review from the critics so that a little disappointing. There is a lot of story to tell and I keep hearing they try to cram too much of it in too quickly.

The movie is based on Warcraft, not World of Warcraft?

Folk tend to forget there was something before WoW, and it bugs me a little.

Of course the movie is based on Warcraft and now WoW. But I think there are many people such as myself, who have spent a lot of time playing WoW and are naturally therefore invested and interested in the world as a whole. I never played the Warcraft games, but I do know a lot of the story and lore behind them and that's only because I started playing WoW.

It's all the same mythos, but yes, I do remember hearing this was based on pre-WoW stuff.

*I meant NOT WoW. Is there no way to edit my post?

Should be, big edit button and shit, :monster:. Or maybe it's disabled for new users to prevent abuse.

Anyway, it's out now, is it any good?

There's apparently a lot of easter eggs and nods to WoW players in the backgrounds and stuff.

Additionally WoW did expand on (or in others opinions retcon :monster: ) The Warcraft 1-3 lore quite a bit.

So while the movie is about Warcraft 1 and WoW is technically Warcraft 4 for intents and purposes theres still a lot of cross over for fans of both.

As far as reviews go I've seen some mixed ones from critics internationally I haven't checked american reviews yet though. Over all fan reviews seem to be quite favorable since I last checked though (admittedly it was very early on in the international release).

Over all from the trailers. I'm excited but cautious. The orcs acting looks like it's going to carry the movie it for some reason seems much more organic and real then the Alliance acting. For real all of the humans look stiff as all fuck in the trailers.

As a long time Alliance player it pains me to say Horde side looks better in this one lol.

I don't know if I am blind or what, but I swear that button was not there when I frantically searched for it yesterday.

The movie isn't out in America until the 10th, so I will have to wait to see it til then.

Probably didn't have enough posts yet. I think you need ten before you get edit permissions and other stuff :monster:

I've seen this movie now, and I seriously do not understand the poor reviews its been getting. It was a bit shaky at first, but it got better as it went. By the end I definitely wanted to see more of these characters and this world. It wasn't a great movie, but it was enjoyable.

The action was brutal and awesome, the music fit the movie perfectly, and the special effects were very good. Acting ranged from meh to good, with no terrible performances at all, and at least one very good performance from Durotan.

Story was a bit hard to follow in specific areas, but it was easy enough to follow the overall plot.

I hope they make more of these movies.

They definitely are this movie was a massive hit in China and over all made a good deal of money domestically as well.

I didn't post in this thread sooner cause I just assumed everyone disliked it or lost interest lol.

I also enjoyed it and the changes to the over all Lore were simple yet slightly different enough to still excite me despite knowing the story very well. I really enjoyed Paula Pattons portrayal of Garona and the interactions between Khadgar and basically everyone else were especially great.

The only thing that throws me off is why they chose to call
The Guardian in Darkness Alodi instead of Aegwynn.

Other then that it really is an enjoyable fantasy movie.

Did I not post on this?

I, too, enjoyed the film. The cuts and plot pacing remind me a lot more of Asain cinema so that and all the other things come as no surprise that it's a massive success in China. We're quite looking forward to another film.

I've just gotten home now from watching it. I loved it! Got very excited!! Tried to explain bits and pieces to my wife. I loved it!

I loved how the Orc huts and stuff LOOKED exactly the same as in the games! I loved how going into Stormwind and Ironforge were like in WOW. I loved how flying into Stormwind is the same as WOW. These little bows to the games made me very excited!!!

Hanging for another 8 movies and I want them all now!! lol! Hanging to see the undead come into it all, great cameo from the Elves, hanging for the Draenei and Tauren, but mostly, undead! I loved my undead toon!!

Damn that wow crack! I wanna play again!!

On the way to Goldshire the Murloc cameo had me and my friends cracking up.

Of course those little bastards would be there lol. And yup! Loved the part where it showed the flight path to Stormwind. Exactly the way it is in WoW.

I can really respect that Duncan Jones and co really did do their best to make an enjoyable and respectable movie for fans of the series. It's definitely a movie for the Fans first which is nice for a change.

And also pretty interesting. With such a large budget necessary for a film like this I honestly expected more Hollywood Exec meddling. Especially since for the most part the actors for the film are not Hollywood Giants. It really is surprising they were able to make a respectable film despite all of that.

Main thing I missed in Stormwind City was how there weren't giant hero statues on the way there, but instead a giant statue of err, Medivh I think it was. IDK why; that one scene would be better if it showed a row of heroes that I'm sure have a place in the wider Warcraft lore, but which I don't know.

Then again, it takes place in what I think is more of a prequel to Warcraft as we know it today, maybe the characters depicted in those statues only appeared after the storylines in this movie / timeframe.

The 3 main statues you see in game that are replaced by the Medihv statue in the movie are of heroes who stayed behind in Outland/Draenor as it's portal was going to be destroyed in Warcraft 2 and cause the catastrophic chain of events that basically destroyed the planet.

IIRC they are statues of Khadgar , Alleria Windrunner (Sylvanas older sister) and Turalyon.
The other statues are of Misc. heroes who were also left behind on the other end of the portal.

Righteous, so, later additions. It would've been neat if they made statues out of idk, people that got realm first on some dungeon.

Exactly what I was going to say... "maybe they have not earned their statues yet..." hhhmmmm.....

When Khadgar was enveloped in golden light near the end of the movie, my husband leaned over and whispered, "He dinged."

I almost lost it in the theater. My friend who was sitting on my other side had to ask if I was okay.

I think the movie was kind of rushed in terms of pacing, which is a same because they changed a lot by leaving so much out. I don't have a problem with condensing such a large story into something smaller for a movie, but I understand why people who have never played a Warcraft game were really confused by the plot.

Yeah I can imagine that. I mean didn't they basically allude to Sargeras in passing in like 2 scenes. If that? lol

I'm really interested to see how or if they will integrate the Burning Legion and some of the more out there ideas. I feel like they may have missed a good opportunity to at least reference Sargeras and set him up a bit more through out the movie and it will possibly effect the sequels negatively.

Well TBF, I never heard of Sargeras or anything until Warcraft 3, and that's like, halfway through the game already. So they could keep it mysterious and introduce the character properly in the next movie (assuming they go ahead with it), maybe flesh out the plot a bit more, take a bit more time, etc.

Yeah I guess you are right. I'm just so used to knowing the ins and outs of this story that it bothers me that there is minimal mention of some of the greater workings of the universe so far. I just hope they integrate it properly and don't just have him appear out of nowhere lol

Well, the Scourge did kinda appear outta nowhere iirc, :monster:. I mean Warcraft 3's intro movie shows just that. The opening of the Warcraft movie is reminiscent of that one actually. Kind of a shame, redoing that scene for the 2nd movie (which should be recognisable to viewers of the previous movie, although iirc that one ended with a
wew lads orcs n humans r frends now and the gate didn't open so yay
so idk) would've been epic. Good for a trailer, too.
